Kindles Libraries and Reading
« on: August 04, 2021, 12:59:17 pm »
My new Kindle arrived last week. Excited. My old one crapped out after a long useful life.

I have a file with about 300 books in it if someone wants to do some trading. Not too sure how it could happen. Not very techie.

Nonetheless, a colleague told me about "Z Library". It's a website where you can download 10 books a day for free. They have anything you could want including new releases and the best sellers on the NY Times list right now. Info for those who love to read.

In the last week I've read 2 Grisham novels, Freakonomics and am halfway through Super Freakonomics.

I love my Kindle!

It's not exactly free. You have to donate at least $1 a month to be able to download to a Kindle.

I can get books for my Kindle free from my local public library.

I download 10 books a day. First I convert them to Mobi files, I have my Kindle plugged into the computer, then when the conversion is done which takes a few seconds, I save them directly to my Kindle. Don't know about this $1 a day thing. Even still, $1 a day for 10 books. That's a bargain.

Do they upload to the kindle without any proofreading issues? This is one of the worst things about the Kindle, most books are fine but occasionally you get some that descend into illegibility. It's because they scan the books and an automated program turns it into a text file, and a lot of errors happen, like "spend" coming out "5perid" or something like that.

Looking for mental-age appropriate reading materials, are you?

Ouch.....

No, they are whatever books you want. I have yet to search for a book from Z Library and been disappointed. As to the mixed up font/spelling thing. I have noticed it in a couple of books but that's it. And the instances are very infrequent and it's the same word or words. It is absolutely not an issue. An entire Grisham novel with a dozen such things, nothing to get wound up about.

I've even downloaded a service manual for my motorbike and helpful books for teaching the kids.

10 books is based on ip address, cookies, etc.  Calibre is effective at get books into a device.  PDFs are not good on any small Kindle or similar e-reader.

2009 re-visited.

I have three though one is a cheap tablet I was given but never use.  Still awesome devices for books to this day.  The ink display ones don’t keep you awake at least anymore than an interesting paper book.  Electronic devices do.

Yep, Kindles are cool. Much better than relying on What the Book (now closed), Itaewon Foreign Bookstore or Kyobo.

And Covid-19 proof.
