Middle School Projects
« on: October 15, 2021, 09:51:31 am »
Hello! I need help thinking of projects my students can do for the rest of the year. We have finished the textbook and my coteacher isn't that helpful in letting me know what she would like for me to teach for the remaining 2 months. Please share any topics or links of esl projects I could run with my students.

So at my school, we're having them prepare for their speaking test, which generally takes about 3 weeks to complete ( and we see our kids every day). "Giving recommendations" is always a good speaking topic, but you can also just choose a topic from the textbook and have them do that.

Making a movie: put them in groups, give each group a genre and have them write and film their own movies. This also takes up a chunk of time, depending on how often you see your kids.

MBTI tests are very popular right now in Korea. Both my co-ts have done them with my students. But, they've been entirely in Korean and my co-ts did all the work, so you'd need your co-t to carry most of the lessons if you do it

Halloween is coming up so you can do something for that week: scavenger hunt (if your school's lax with covid restrictions), a quiz where their final score determines how much candy they get.

Since you've got 2 whole months, I think doing longer projects instead of 1-2 period projects will be a lot less work for you, and more ideal.

One that may be slightly less resource heavy is to make a board game. I did an entire unit making the board game Clue. Should keep them busy for a while:

It's kind of late now.  But find some topic ppts here.  Find some funny YouTube videos.  Make a handout or game if you can.  Then get the kids to make a group poster on B4 or larger paper about the topic.  Start this week and finish the next week.  Then next week each group presents their poster with a small speech.  Two weeks down.  Do this a few times until semester is finished.
I can see.  I can see.  I can see....
