Gangneung/ Hweongseong/ Pyeongchang EPIK Transfer Request
« on: October 26, 2021, 10:24:58 am »
Hello all!

My wife and I are thinking of moving to Hwoengseong (Dunnae), from Gangneung this spring, and I am looking for available EPIK contracts to replace in the area. I am a current EPIK contract holder in Yangyang. We are also considering staying in Gangneung, if a contract is available. If you are leaving the area, or, know someone who is, please contact me here, or at gnichols1945@gmail.com.

Thanks~!

Don't you have to apply directly to EPIK or use a recruiter if that rural province uses a recruiter to hire directly (some do and some don't).  A person can't simply switch positions with you.
I can see.  I can see.  I can see....

If they are in the same province they can request a transfer to a specific school if they know the person is leaving.

This was what I was led to believe as well. I've seen a few teachers do this in the past.

Of course, but I don't think his post is about that.  But if it is, he should be asking his POE and not us on waygook.  I did a transfer within my province long ago and got the provincial supervisor to approve it.

Hi! Yes, I have been in contact with them. Just covering all my bases!  ;D

Okay, no problem.  Always good to ask other people's experiences.  Sorry, I didn't realize you were in the same province as I don't know either of those locations.  (I may travel around Korea more next year trying to get to know more places though.)

Not all PoEs will give you the info of what teachers will be leaving. In my old area we were never told, in Jeolla, we get a post on our facebook page to let people who wants to transfer / leave so people can request the schools.
If you are already in the region, and know of a school that will be vacant at the time you move, it's more likely you'll get it before they hire someone new to go there.

Yes, I've been told that teachers are not allowed to know of upcoming job availability. So, here I am, asking around on forums :)

If your area has a facebook page that is just the foreign teachers in the area, you could also try asking there too. :D

It's been a long time since I transferred.  I called the supervisor.  I told him I wanted to live in such and such place and asked him if there was an opening next semester.  I asked if I could move there when the next opening was.  But that was a decade ago.  I moved from a rural town to a mid sized city.  Have been there since.
