Congrats on reaching your goal ahead of time Kayos.

Yeah...the cravings! My hobby is baking. I won't stop baking, but it makes reaching goals a little more challenging. I made a cream sponge cake, a huge loaf of (white) bread, and a batch of sante biscuits, on the weekend. I also did no training. Fair to say, I fell off the wagon, after such a good past 5 weeks.

Nevermind, back on the literal bike today.

Edit: Good luck with your visit to the hospital. Hope it's not more than physio.

I enjoy baking too! Though, I find that if I get the urge to bake, I'll take it to my school and share it with my co-workers and/or students.
Helps scratch the baking itch, and my school loves it. :D

Edit: Thank you! I hope they can figure out everything that's wrong.

definitely fucked up my hamstring or something yesterday while deadlifting. it didn't hurt at the time, but i can barely walk today... yay! normally i just keep going with these kinds of things but it happened (much less painfully) like 6 weeks ago so maybe it's time to really rehab this before i permanently break something (hopefully its not too late!)
more gg more skill

That's no good. Yeah, good idea though. Get it right. Hamstrings can take an age to come good if you just try to carry on. A word from experience.

Saw this on a click bait site but thought it was worthy of a post.

This latest wave of Omicron must have played havoc with gym memberships. What better excuse for taking some time off than just waiting things out for some until the wave passes.
I've changed my routine a little my turning up at less busy times.

1. Take the stairs, instead of the elevator (yes, even 5 floors with shopping bags: weight resistance training. Hit the shower when you arrive).

2. Walk if your destination is four blocks or less. (You ain't in that much of a hurry.)

3. Clean your home with a broom and mop instead of vaccuum. And scrub that bathroom!

4. Wash your car if you have one, with brush and cloth not car wash machine discount.

5. Ride a bike somewhere you need to go instead of taking a motorized vehicle to a building to pay to sit on a stationary bike.

Tips to be more active, save money and build cardio.
Good advice.

A fellow lifeguard told me he never took the elevator because they caused heart attacks.

My hamstrings got really tight from sitting too much while doing editing jobs. It caused enough of a problem that I went to physical therapy. Counterintuitively, they said don't stretch the hamstrings because that will weaken them. In my case the quads were dominant so they had me stretch them, which I still do.

Good advice.

I was a certified lifeguard for years.  Missed the part about elevators causing heart attacks.  Although, to be fair, I can't recall elevators being brought up at all.  Spinals in the deep end was the most difficult part of training.  An elevator could've helped.

And if you need to shower after walking up only five flights of stairs while carrying groceries, you may need to dial it back.  Start with strolling empty handed around the block and work up from there.

I'm pretty sure he's being facetious. Just taking the 'you know what' out of Van Islander.

You're probably right.  Van Islander's advice did read like 'Health tips from a couch potato."

It’s actually good advice to take stairs instead of the elevator. Walk instead of driving. Bike instead of driving. Do what you can to get in more exercise. Most Westerners are overweight. That includes most Westerners teaching English in Korea. The Koreans teaching English are not overweight, generally speaking. But the foreign teachers are.

I don't think anyone would debate this LI. What some are saying is that Van Islander is stating the obvious in a fitness thread.

Everyone knows taking stairs instead of elevators is better for your health.  Why not throw in "Don't eat McDonald's everyday, try to cook fresh?"  I mean, if you're going to give tips to people, try and provide some advice they may not be familiar with as opposed to basic intuitive knowledge.  VanIslander's tips were the kind of thing a Good Housekeeping article would suggest for a sixty year old shut in.

Hey!  You just made this up. You couldn't possibly know enough to make a definitive statement like this.  Shame on you.  "Most Westerners are overweight. That includes most Westerners teaching English in Korea. The Koreans teaching English are not overweight, generally speaking. But the foreign teachers are.
[/quote]

I just ran through my head and can recall eighteen different Korean English teachers at my public schools over the years.  None of them exercised, although one liked screen golf golf, and one started walking 3kms home in the last year we worked together but stopped when the weather got cool.  The majority of male western teachers I know here belonged to and went to gyms.  There are some out of shape rotund NETs around but they're not the majority in my experience.  But, seeing as there are thousands of western teachers here I wouldn't be comfortable making a statement about what "most" of them are like.  I would be making things up if I did that.

And how about female western teachers? Best not to exclude them, seeing as how they are the majority of western public school teachers. Overall, most western teachers in Korea are overweight. Definitely. Do you not come into contact with many? Think of speech contests, teachers visiting your school from an English village, etc.

Were they overweight? I bet they weren’t. Maybe due to Korean genetics? And/or healthy eating? And/or mountain hiking?

I actually wrote that the majority of larger westerners I had encountered here were by far women, but I thought that would result in my post being banned for being sexist, despite it being my true experience.

Maybe not by far, but a bit over 50% are women. More men apply due to more desire to be / stay abroad, as women are more likely to want to be near lifelong friends and family… but… women are more desired by employers, so they have a big leg up in the hiring process. Shrinking demand and a not shrinking pool of applicants as Kpop surges in popularity means employers can afford to be more picky. Plus there is growing awareness in South Africa, a place where per capita gdp is 5k a year. Great salary for them.

They were mostly not overweight, but that's only part of the battle.  Anyways, I stand by the fact that the majority of western male teachers I knew/know here (isn't that the make up of the ten or so active posters here that you keep trying to call out?) were active and not overweight.  From gym goers, bike riders, mountain hikers and joggers most guys I've know here, despite going through an initial booze indulgence phase, look after themselves.  I know there are some guys that have been here years and still prioritize weekly booze ups outside the weekends and eschew physical activity, but other than SPQR and CO2 who fits that bill on here?

I won't argue the "big leg" part.

Oh, you were using just male because that’s the makeup of this forum? True. But there are more readers than posters. Wasn’t trying to call out or insult anyone, just giving information. And I’d say the majority of those posting on and reading this forum are overweight. Which is why the health tips provided are good. Helpful to our lives.

I guess that means the balance of probability would suggest that  LI is overweight, given that he's a majority poster.  ;D
