Current Korean smartphones usable in the UK?
« on: April 14, 2022, 06:07:12 pm »
I found a post from like..11 years ago but I'm sure tech has changed since then. Anyone have any recent experience with taking a phone like a korean galaxy note s20 and using it in the UK? are they compatible now?

This information is current as of 2020:

Long story short, yes, it'll work if you unlock it. ... probably.

It looks like that is slightly out of date as well since it's talking about CDMA. 4G/5G are all new technology separate from the CMDA/GSM issues of before and the upgrade track for both lead to LTE and NR for 5G. I'd just previously read that not all implementations of 4G and 5G were the same, so I wasn't sure if that actually caused issues or not.

Modern phones will work. You just have to worry about the UK's crappy network coverage.

If you have a Korean unlocked phone which I think you do get here or can ask for.  KT gave me that.  I still have my first smart phone (over 5 years - was 3G before that).  But, I went to Canada before covid and put in a sim card from virgin mobile at the mall and got a local phone number for a month.  Then, back in Incheon I put my Korean KT card back in.  Kakao and some other apps still worked even though I had a different phone number on my phone.  I bought unlimited calling and about 6 GB of data.  I had to be careful to use wifi where ever I could and use up my data.  Unlimited here spoils me.
I still never got any previous warnings to make me muted.  I never got any reason for being muted.  I guess the moderators of this site are just fat loser assholes who do as they feel.  Just because they feel like it or were losing an argument.  Dumbass morons!!!

You weren't kidding. I finally managed to find ofcom's coverage map and the fact that they have significant areas marked "some problems" inside city limits is a bit embarrassing.
