This reminds me. I watched Halley's comet in the early 1986 sky. I'll be dead by the time it zooms around again. Even though it wasn't that clear, it was still a once in a lifetime thing. Probably most of you here also saw it.
I remember it, of course, but considering that was 35 years ago, I'm thinking quite a few here will not have ...Hale-Bopp in the 90s is probably going to be the most spectacular comet of our lifetimes.
I used to see the Northern Lights during the winter from my balcony when I lived in Calgary quite regularly.
Calgary? I've been there often as I did my undergrad in Alberta. Heck, I never saw the Northern Lights in Edmonton (though I was in streetlit areas most of the time. Huh. I had to go 4 hours north of Edmonton (Fahler, the Peace River area) before I noticed the great spectacle. It is incredible. I can just imagine the oral stories the First Nations peoples had for it.
