What movies really bring out your emotional side?
« on: June 25, 2022, 03:43:24 pm »
As the title says, there are movies that really hit me. I cannot watch them without getting misty eyed.

The Blind Side

True Grit (John Wayne)

Any movies move you?

These initially come to mind:

Apocalypse Now
Message in a Bottle
Stand By Me
Schindler's List
Groundhog Day

There are lots more certainly. I love films. I'll reflect and come back with a list with a stab at relative ranking. The above is on'the'mind these days first thoughts. Saw two of them again this year.

Cannibal Holocaust (obvious reasons) and The Thundering Mantis because the ending is gut-wrenching stuff.

It's December, so these three always are moving:

1. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (original 1966 animation);
2. The Family Man;
3. Scrooged.

I see one to all of them every year.

Lords of the Lockerroom

A real jerker of a film. Sometimes with tears, too.

Falling Down- My Favorite Movie. The corner store scene should be played on repeat on subways and in stores here. At least until we are paid properly.
Rocky II and III- When Rocky beats the villain Apollo Creed and the thug Clubber Lang.
Cobra- When Stallone beats the Mexican gangsters. Not a sad emotional moment, but one that really got me pumped up. Falling Down also paid homage to this scene.
Pocahantas was really cute and touching, and it was good for education as it involved real historical people.
The Fountainhead. Of course.
Not emotional movies, but emotional scenes- Dirty Harry and Crocodile Dundee. Great stuff.

The Green Mile
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Jojo Rabbit
The Hunger Games
Saving Private Ryan

So many more, honestly, but these come to mind first because they actually made me cry the first time I watched them.

If you ever go to the international clinic at Yonsei Severance hospital and get assigned to the American guy, you can have a real-life Patch Adams experience of your own. Just don't expect quality medical care.

I loved the ending to JoJo Rabbit.  Perfectly understated and accompanied to a great song. I'll put it up there with the end of Cinema Paradiso for me, as far as shedding a happy tear goes at the end of a flick.
