Aren't you the same guy who was getting laughed out of the room on Facebook?

To be fair, while anyone with sense and the effort to research knows that Jeju will NEVER be Hawaii (Korean version perhaps, but as folks know, the Korean "version" is usually sold with  bag of....well...lets leave it at that), that does not suggest it would not be a bad place to live.

Sand in the summer...snow in the winter.

I'm down with that . However, what folks should be NOT down with is the 2006 salary offered by the guy who has been laughed at on Facebook.   The word is, Korean recruiters are underasdvertising the pay to hide the fact they are taking out a percentage from the monthly pay.

Go for a direct hire...skip this guy.

Mods...if ya'll actually conjured up the idea to dismiss recruiters posting on this, replace by direct hires, whilst advertising the spots (provided those standard Kyndo posted earlier applied..and a few more specifics), it may be a proactive step in the right direction.

Ban recruiters....they have cause so much damage to the industry. There is NO need to defend, or take their side.  They are chicken hawks.  And, if the owner of Waygook. or whoever is in charge had some sense, he would generate plan to to welcome hogwans who wan to skip filthy recruiters, and make a profit....they are out there.

Get off your put and make it happen and do the ESL industry in Korea, a service.

People who have never been there give silly takes.

It is OF COURSE like Hawaii (few of us have been to both; it's more Hawaii than Guam!)

For half the year, from the start of May to the end of October. Certainly. I spent 7 years in the southernmost city of Seogwipo and ran often shirtless in April and November (on sunny 14 C  days, getting max. natural vitamin D).

One Christmas Eve was 18 c at midnight and rainy as hell; another was over a foot deep in snow for days!

Yet five of the other 6 facts are new.

Are you stalking?... Please stop always criticizing posts of mine. There is an "ignore" function. Harassment is not cool. Ignore or take a week off please  Seriously. I have 23 posts you have criticized in recent months. Ignore if constantly bothered by me. State your opinion on any topic. Just don't constantly laser focus on a poster, as that's harassment, and no one wants that.

Having lived in Hawaii and spending time on 4 of the islands, I would say Jeju is not like Hawaii at all.
They are volcanic islands but that's about where the similarities end. The climate, the landscape, the flora and fauna are entirely different.

For those who gaf about this job ad, i having lived there for years (gasp i say again 7 years), you can wear shorts and a t-shirt from mid-March until mid-November. I turned the a/c on in my jeep every single April despite the speed/wind, and didn't shut the a/c off until mid-October. Fact. It bloody well reminded me of Hawaii most of the year. Yeah, from late November (afternoon temps dip below 14 c) to mid-March, there is "winter", sometimes with snow, sometimes warm rain).

But April through October the palm trees, tangerines, greenery and coastline tells you you ain't in Kansas anymore!

Whomever gets this job, enjoy!

I worked in Hainan. it's the hawaii of China AKA the Jeju of China AKA the phuket of China AKA the Langkawi of China AKA the Boracay of China.

So is Jejudo the Hainan of Korea then? We should just call it the China of Korea from now on.

Pre-Covid it basically was. Chinese got visa-free access so it was a popular tourist destination.

I prefer it to the corny 'Hawaii of Korea' line. Sorry Van, it's decided.

I'm equally sick of "The Hawaii of China" line but at least recruiters here don't try to use it.

To be clear:

1. i said nothing about Hainan China and
2. "Jeju is the Hawaii of Korea" is a Korean trope. Live there and you will here it constantly. There are parallels. But major differences.

I worked in Hainan. it's the hawaii of China AKA the Jeju of China AKA the phuket of China AKA the Langkawi of China AKA the Boracay of China.
Like Jeju is the Hawaii of Korea? Agreed, you can wear shorts and a t-shirt from mid-March through mid-November. But Jeju, unlike Hawaii, does have a winter! (No autumn, I'd argue)

(Often said, having lived on Jeju for 7 years it's hard to think Hawaii has had like Jeju over a foot of snow, minus temps for days on end, experts say palm trees are dying because they aren't in their native climate on Jeju, waves are centimeters for surfers on Jeju but meters in Hawaii.

...

BACK ON TOPIC:

All 7 years on Jeju i spent in Seogwipo, a great small city, the Southernmost in Korea.

Quote

People think that. It is what it is.

Don't walk, run to apply! (At least i would if i hadn't already spent many years there.) Go to the sea every morning. Half of the work days is yours until after lunch. Talk to several other foreigners on staff, making one or more connections, certainly getting questions answered.

Like Jeju is the Hawaii of Korea?

Yeah except Hainan is actually in the tropics. Jeju is just an island that Chinese go to for duty free shopping. That is until covid hit. In Hainan you can go shirtless in your Jeep convertible 14 months of the year.
