What animals are you helping?
« on: October 01, 2022, 07:22:54 pm »
Live with a dog.
Try to handle cats.
Have pets.
(Opt out by focusing on plants).

I was told by other expats to not have (not take care of) animals if i didn't plan to take them home. (I get the sentiment but every animal every minute needs love and attention, help!).

Do you have a dog?
Do you have a cat?
(If so, why not 2? They are very social.)

In Korea I have also had a hamster (that buddy lasted only six months) .... and two birds, i think parakeets (they were given to me by my academy owner and two years later i gave them back).

I only have two cats now(have been with them for 8 years), but i hope to rescue animals in the future! They need us.

What animals do you help? How can we help more?

Life's to live! Live! Breathe. Relax. Enjoy. Animals teach us to focus on family, friends and avoid danger. Get what you need and get along with others. That said, some rock the boat, but they know capsizin' it means they're sunk. Some sink, let's swim! The sea's big, great, but has undercurrents.

I looked after a friend's cat for four months; a seven year old chinchilla. He was an interesting fellow. He wouldn't come when he was called, but would reply with a loud "Meow!" that echoed around my apartment. He threw everything he could find on the floor so I had to let him stay in the guest bedroom. Thankfully it had previously been inhabited by a couple of toddlers who had already trashed it. Sometimes he would jump on the counter when I was cooking but he quit doing that after he accidentally threw a meat cleaver down onto the granite floor and made the most God awful crash you've ever heard. Man he was terrified. After four months he went home. I'm still thinking of getting a cat of my own. I don't know how long I'll be here so I'm not totally sure if I should.

Ten seconds at an animal shelter and every fiber of your being wants to do something! Do!

Who knows the end result, but this animal will have a better life for months and months to come!

I'm in China and it's tough to adopt strays here. Most of them won't trust humans and escape at the first opportunity. I would probably just adopt one from someone who is leaving the country.

Drop canned food after midnight. It'll be gone by morning.

But the strays won't know it was from me. How will that make them trust me?

Trust is earned, not bought.

Odds are that stray cats aren't going to trust you but you can help them by providing food.

Avoid the kitty & puppy mill and make a difference.

(But if you get a kitty or puppy from there or anywhere just love them!)

Alternatively you can make a lucrative side hustle selling strays to various 보신탕* restaurants and Vietnamese Pho places, dogs at the former and cats at the latter.

Thank my generation that believes in the value of FREEDOM which is tested and real when it results in expressions one is 100% against but is willing to let live. There are others who sincerely believe the opposite, however hard it may seem to be.

Seriously? There are a ton of posts that criticize me that remain undeleted. I think i'm soft if anything on enforcing the non-harassment policy.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental value that younger generations seem willing to sacrifice/push aside. SAY THE RIGHT THING. It is all about being right; no longer being heard.

Some would call that hypocritical. Muslims and maybe far right Christians in the US would call it heretical.

I bought bulk of whiskas online.  I throw some out on the lawn of my apartment complex to give the stray cats a snack to eat.
745sticky, Augustiner, Bakeacake, D.L.Orean, Lazio, Mithras, Renma, Rye are still blocked and I can't see them.

As much as I like cats the strays and even pets are decimating native animal populations; birds, small mammals etc.
Tnr helps but not enough.

Calling animal control on you gramps. The average hamster lifespan is around 60 years. I hope he was 59.5 at the time! If you 'fact check' me, you lose. AskJeeves has never been wrong.

I wonder how the other residents feel about you guys feeding the strays ? My building surroundings and the parking area has big piles of cat turd and sometimes dead animals found daily. The strays loudly copulate and/or fight at all hours of the night too. Some guy is feeding them chicken scraps, and while I like cats it is getting pretty annoying to sidestep and avoid hitting cat shit with my tyres, or dealing with the reek of dead birds decomposing on the regular. Feeding them seems to be attracting more to the building.
