Community-building event in Itaewon.
« on: November 10, 2022, 10:39:24 am »
A voice from beyond the grave asked me to post this on their behalf.
It looks to be a community-building dinner event for those in the Itaewon area.

Weekdays only, no go for us lowlife hicks outside of Gyeonggi.
Have people been avoiding Itaewon since Halloween?

I wanna say that he's doing this for attention, but it is a good idea. The weekday thing with staggered attendance is good. Maybe I'll do down a meat pie and a old fashioned on a Thursday!! LOL Dessert? another old fashioned!

It's a good idea and I'm glad he's starting in Gyeongridan.

Because when you walk by that alley and memorial for the first time, it could hit in some strange ways, especially if you see grieving people. Just be careful and be ready if you do go by there.

And do be respectful.

It's a nice thought, but no way I can make it out there on a weekday. I'm usually down in Seoul once a weekend, though, and always stop by Itaewon for a few things.

It seems like people are definitely avoiding certain areas, at least. It may still be too early to tell for how long if not indefinitely.

The post says "if you wanna go, just go." I think the event is more of a friendly reminder to support the local economy but also remind people that safety is a concern? Shouldn't be too busy on a weekday but the fear is that it probably won't be too popular on Saturdays either. To a restaurant, 8 bucks is 8 bucks. They don't care what day it is.

Not all press is good press.

Really Marti??? You've just blown me away by even thinking you would have to remind others to do so

Are people on this site and others reading your comment really that insensitive or childish?

All of the above, but I think it's also an attempt to build solidarity while also trying to remain sensitive to the tragedy itself. Obviously you can go and support the economy at any time, but by designating certain days you're also hoping for a bigger visual turnout representing that support without triggering any trauma.

It's what I'm getting out of it, anyway. Had I been able to go on a designated day, I might've been able to chat with folks I otherwise wouldn't have. Or not.

That's what makes it so unnecessary and condescending. We're all adults here, and even the worst of us have that much common sense.

The kind of people who don't aren't going to give a flying **** about it anyway, so who exactly does he think he's talking to?

It's weird that he felt like it was his place to say anything about it.

Anyone who's gonna go, do you have any idea what you'll do for the three things?

I think I'll go eat my face off an Manimal. Then for the drink...... I think I'll grab a cocktail at Southside and then head over to Al Pedo. Kevin Grabb's idea about the baklava is on fleek, no cap. lolololol

EDIT: Wait, that's the youtube alcohol guy that people were talking about a while ago right? lol
