Age limit for teaching in Korea.

I'm sure this has been asked before? What is the age limit for teaching in Korea? Can people get jobs after 50? Is it a regional thing, or a national law? Thanks in advance.

I think 62 years is the age limit at EPIK. I would assume it's the same for hawgons as well

No, hagwons have no age limit but it gets more difficult to get a job as you age. Not impossible though, and some hagwons see benefits hiring older teachers.

For (EPIK) public schools the age limit is 62 years, which is the official retirement for Korean tenured teachers/ principals as well. For Hagwons, while there is no official age limit, these are businesses and that tend to prefer younger foreigner teachers, as age discrimination is high in this country and Hogwons are no exception in many cases.

I think you can teach at a hakwon at any age as long as the immigration officials will give you a visa. I was applying to various hagwons some years ago and none of them mentioned an age stipulation. Some hogwans will want younger people while others are ok with more experience. I guess it might depend on what each hakwan is teaching. There are some hogwons that teach piano while others instruct students in dance. Not all hagwons teach English. It is safe to say that hakwons are an important part of education in Korea.

A 71-year-old South African retired South African teacher was hired after 2nd-guessed interviewed following already accepting her lazy-assed 40-something son. After a year here, at the hagwon i was at, she was offered another year on condition that her lazy-ass son not, and she did what moms do, ... and walked. Some students cried. Literally.
