Don't kid yourself, all heroes wear capes. // I don't get in shape. I bring the gym to my house and I throw it around.

Heading home to the Philippines for 2 weeks, can't wait to get in some snorkeling and some nice warm weather, the weather  in Taiwan at this time of the year is pretty bad.

I took a trip to Jeju last week to hike Hallasan. If you haven’t done Hallasan in the snow, I highly recommend it. I’ve spread out my days off and will be using them to do some things around around Korea. I have trips to Seoul and Busan planned for over the next month.

How about you, L I? What are your plans?

My son-in-law's father is always heading down there to hike Hallasan. Hiking is all he does. He even tried to get our whole family to do it. None of us are dedicated hikers...slow walking being my style. Embarrassing moment with everyone scrambling to find excuses.  Anyway, glad you enjoyed it.

Swervy and saffer, you too have a relaxing holiday back home.

I'm staying home. Maybe a few days trips here and there.

Come on LI, what are your plans?

‘Any recommendations?’ means no plans yet.

Plans of others is good brainstorming material for places to go and things to do.

I was going to cancel going out of the country since I would have boatloads of time in March when I am jobless.  However, my gf was really keen on me waiting so that we can do a big trip together in a year, so I backed out of my resignation and will be doing another year right where I am.  The things we do for love.  She better not dump me.

So, then with my three weeks off in February I will go to Florida or Bangkok.  I can't seem to persuade anyone to accompany me to Bangkok. well my gf will be there with family but I am not going to join that crowd, so Sarasota, Florida is the favoured destination.

I had previously managed Hallasan in the other three seasons. Needed winter to complete the cycle  It was the most enjoyable one so far. Beautiful views all around. For anyone with a passing interest or enjoyment in hiking it is a must.

Leaving Saturday for 3 weeks in Thailand.  As retirement age is coming, so this is probably my last visit there.  A few days in BKK, 6 days in Chiangmai, then to Koh Chang, two different beaches, then back to BKK  and to ICN.

Fair enough. I'll rephrase. Do you have any thoughts about what you might like to do over the holidays? Anything running through your mind, but you have yet to decide?

Have a great one Mr C. A nice break from Korea!

Actually LI, I do have a suggestion.

It's something I want to do (and will at some point), and that's take the coastal train down the East Coast. I think it runs from Gangneung or Donghae and travels down to where I'm not sure. I saw it on a TV program...great scenery and it just looked like a peaceful trip. Winter-time would be ideal.

Are there any overnight trains in Korea?

a train between the two furthest point in korea, (ktx [bullet train]) takes less than 3 hours.....     there isnt a need for an overnight train.

I think there might be some kind of touristy sleeper car train. I seem to recall reading about it.

Well, this is interesting

The train, established in 2008, was intended to be used to take athletes and fans from Korea to the Beijing Olympics. The South Korean government spent about 7.8 billion won ($6.5 million) to modify some trains so that they would be able to run through North Korea to get to China

It didn't work out, but still, it would have been quite an expensive way to get athletes to the games.

Maybe when the border to North Korea opens I'll do a one-day tour.
