I don't know about everyone else's classrooms, but my kids and co-teacher love board games. I'm always trying to find printable board games that relate to the lesson, and usually I just google "ESL board games "topic name", which is hit or miss. Does anyone know an ESL site that has printable board games.
On another note, I found a great create your own word search site in my search.

Thanks a lot, everyone. I have mixed feelings about board games as learning tools, but my Co-teacher loves them.

Here is a board game template that might work for you. If you'd like to check out how I've used it, look at Gr. 5 Lesson 6. Then, you can insert whatever pictures or phrases you'd like. Enjoy!

Board games (themed)

Good for speaking practice (also good for when poor old teacher is a bit tired and just wants to 'supervise..')
Mak the games last longer by putting them in pairs or 4 to a board adn flipping coins - 100won = 2 spaces, the picture of King Sejong = 1 space.
More to come....

Few more,
To be honest I shouldn't have posted them in elementary coz a lot of them would be good for mid schol and even first two grdes of high school with low level learners...
Well if mods want to move it that's cool. No way I'm undoing all that posting and re-doin it, sorry...
BTW - you can open up a lot of the word ones an change the vocab / re-write the questions

I'm turning into a board game creator junkie, so I am going to add a bunch of board game templates I create and post them here. When possible I will include the fonts that I use.
I have about 4 templates. Tonight I will post the two I have at home. Tomorrow I'll post the other two.
1st one Angry birds with font. 3 players or more needed.
It's a template, so here are some details not written on the game. I left the point system open, but what I imagined is points for every space (varying up to 5 points, lowest 1 point). As long as they speak/answer the questions in English, they can collect points. The first person to land on finish is the winner, and the person with the most points is second. Obviously, you can change this however you want.
EDIT: My CT came up with a way to decide the winner for this template. They have 10 mins to play. First one to finish is the winner. If there is no winner in 10 mins, the one with the most points wins. Enjoy!
I added a PDF sample of a finished one.
EDIT: 4/17/12
I added another template a copy off of the Sorry! board game. You can make your own rules, however, what I envisioned was each student would have a colored game piece corresponding to the clouds. They finish when they reach the star clouds or when 10 mins is up, the student with the most points wins. You will have to replace the school name though.
I added yet another game. This one is a simplistic game compatible with 1st period vocab and key expression introduction as well as for low level learners. It's my version of Tic Tac Toe with a slight twist. Instructions included in the game, but as always if you have problems or need help, just PM me.
4/17/12
Added bounce back game. Instructions are included in the powerpoint on the 2nd slide. If you don't understand how to play, just message me.
EDIT 10/5/2024
Added a scorecard compliments of
Lawrence
. One is plain with no graphics and the other has the angry birds on it. Thanks, Lawrence!

Basic Pororo game template.
they have to land on finish to finish. Bombs mean everyone goes back to start. They can move in any direction to get to finish.
Might be best suited for younger ones since it's so simple and because of the theme.
No special fonts used.

Incredibles board game template with font.
How to play is on the game. They must go clockwise UNLESS they land on the ladder space (shortcut).
HP is the same game different theme.

Cool idea for resources; gets them away from the TV and everyone's talking.
I've used a few myself but they work differently. The board has letters or numbers. The letter/number corresponds with target language you can place on the board (Q&A, vocab). The Ss need to use the correct language when they land on the letter. +3 is move 3 places forward etc. They can go around the board as many times as you want :)
Print A3, laminate and they can be used with any lesson. I've included some pieces to play with too. I'll put some more up soon.

Thank you so much for the board game templates. I have small classes so they are perfect for me to monitor and make sure they are using the target language. I often join in with them playing and make blatant mistakes and then they correct me. It's a good time had by all.

Thanks for posting all of your amazing games. You put some time into these and I thank you for making my life simpler. My students will love them. I promise not to take credit for them but you will be referred to as my "friend." lol
