2010 3rd Grade Lesson 13 Open Your Books
« on: June 14, 2010, 10:08:25 am »
Anyone know what the actions are we should be teaching for this chapter? I have a textbook but can't find the information to go with the cards in the back. I don't want to confuse the kids too much and can't ask my co-teacher as it's an online class and she won't talk to me!

I made a matching game to go with the lesson. I added in slides for "I'm sorry" and "Line up please" which I think may be phrases in this chapter but again, i'm flying blind!

Quadrants game. Period one.

Target skills: Listening and reading. Limited speaking.

Target language:

Sit down, please.                       Close the door, please.
Open your books, please.             Line up, please.
Look at the teacher, please.        Be quiet please.
Stand up, please.                       Look at the TV, please.

Each class corner (quadrant) has a large card with two of the above sentences printed.
Write all sentences on paper then separate and put them into a hat.
Ss to choose a quadrant in the room.
Choose one piece of paper and read the sentence to the class (to be done by Ss after the first round).
The team standing in that sentence's quadrant must sit down.
Paper is to go back into the hat.
The last person standing is the winner.
If the game drags on, instant winners can be found by changing rules to make the chosen sentence the winning quadrant (all others must sit).

Enjoy!

I think this would be a good video to show for this lesson.

I adapted the Mario Game from lesson 12 for this unit.  Some of the mushrooms just give you coins as I found that the last game we were running short on time...feel free to change as you need to.

Thanks again for the original game...it is AWESOME!

I have changed the Mario game to have a few compound sentences, seeing as my kids find the original sentences too easy.  Hope you enjoy!

This template for Mario is great but I'm a little confused.
It seems to me that a lot of the times just coins will appear and no questions? So essentially it just turns into sts picking letters and getting points? Anyway I'm no ppt whizz but will try and adjust it somehow. Or am I missing something?

Anyway great job on the template.

Open your books, week 13 period 1 Ghostbusters PPT.

Hi guys, I noticed there was a lack of decent material, so I modified the ghostbuster bomb game, to include the relevant pictures (there weren't many funny pictures on google images, so i just repeated them a lot!). I have also included time limits on the slides, so kids are more time pressured, making for more fun. I have included a couple of different ideas, such as sentence scramble, do the opposite, control the other team, free points, listen to the teacher and do etc. This is for Period 1 of week 13: Open your books. Also if anyone has any cool ideas for period 2, im all ears. Ta. P.S. im in the slides, so your gonna have to delete those, unless you don't mind.

I created a few PPTs for this lesson, which I'll be teaching tomorrow and next week.

I intend to start the class with the pumpkin video posted earlier, then go through the CD lesson, then use the Actions and Expressions PPTs to reinforce the CD, and end with the Blockbusters game. Thanks again to Rufus for the template. I'm sure the kids will love it.

Oops! I need to fix the animation/links in Round 2 of the Blockbuster game. Will post a new version when I have time. Round 1 works fine, though. ;D

@ kaymac-
the key phrases to go with the picture cards are :
Close the door, please. Open your book, please.
Close the window, please. Stand up please.
Sit down, please. Please, come here.
Please, look at this! and Please, be quiet.

If you have a teacher's guide, they are listed for the game in Period 2 (pg 267)

The hyper links were removed in that file... that is why it wasn't working.  I've randomly added the hyper links back, so it should work now.
