fun READING activities for advanced MS students
« on: June 24, 2011, 08:02:21 pm »
My CT told me today that my classes are a little too easy for them. I have to teach from the textbook so there's nothing much I can do but the activities within the book. My CT said I can go outside the book and do some more challenging reading activities with my kids. I was thinking of doing short stories but I can't think of any fun activities to go with the short stories. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this? Thanks in advance

  Newsacademic : http://www.newsademic.com/index/internalpage/menuid/167/cmsid/144

Follow the link and get a free ESL newspaper with comprehension questions, subscribe for a free newpaper with questions every 2 weeks. Go to my site and download some of my textbooks that I found on Scribd. Good luck.

I prepare lessons using this: http://www.breakingnewsenglish.com/

They can be a bit complicated sometimes, so I tend to go through and lower the level a bit more for my advanced students.

I have to follow the book for the first time this year. These are some of the stuff that I do in my classroom.

1. I have them read the stories. But, the dialogues are two easy for them.
2. After they read an article. I start asking them questions and they have to answer in complete
    sentences.
3. Then on the next article or story. They have to write down 5 or 6 questions from the article or story
and I will check to make sure they are written correctly. Then they come to the front and start asking
the class their questions. Then the class has to answer in complete sentences.
4. Every week they have to write a diary about the article or a topic related to the article. Then they have to give
a speech on what they wrote.
5. Some of the topic they wrote about this year.
   a. Design a school uniform and tell the class.
   b. List 5 Greek Gods and Goddess and explain why you like them for a newspaper article.
   c. Write a two page book.
   d. pick a word from the chapter and write a story about that word.
6. Spelling bee.
7. I like this websate. Becuase it will help the students with there speaking and writing.

thanks for your ideas guys. Do you know where I can find short stories that are only a couple pages long? Short stories can really get their imaginations going. Thanks a lot.
