Alright guys,
I got the idea for this lesson from the book "Things English Speakers DO NOT SAY" - Jonghap Publishing - Authors Jana Holt, Charles Middleton and Kwang Chul Park.
You know how sometimes Koreans say "Okay" to mean Yes, right? For example, "Me: Bill, do you like hiking? Bill:
Okay (but he means yes) or Sarah: Pablo, we can't meet tonight, but how about tomorrow night?
Are you okay? (but she really means, is that okay with you?)
This lesson is for VERY low level students, so I tried to simplify it as much as possible. Obviously those of you that have higher level students can further extrapolate on any given part of this lesson. Yes, this lesson can be confusing, so if there's anyone that can improve upon it, please be my guest
FYI: Disregard the previous portion of the PPT as it's a review from another lesson (also disregard the top portion of the worksheet)
The Lesson is pretty self expanatory and revolves around
(3) Rules:
Rule 1: Use
"Are you Okay?" when you think someone is sick and not feeling well.
Rule 2: Do not use
Okay to answer every yes or no question.
Rule 3: Use
Okay if someone agrees with you or likes your suggestion.
Team Game 1 is all about practicing puting words into a complete sentence. Usually its an A/B situation with Student A in the first slide saying "Do you like to eat Choco Pies?" and Student B saying: Yes (Note: you can elaborate more on this based on the student level, for example Yes, I do or Yes I do. They taste really good.) Usually I have the students write these down on a white board and then if they finish first, two students in the group must do the A/B dialogue to get the points.
Team Game 2 is about choosing the write B or Continuation of the A response to the question (In this case when the question asks "Pablo, you don't look so good." you can answer with "Are you okay?" both technically being what Student A would say). There could be multiple answers (for example, Yes, No, Okay, Are you Okay).
You can finish up the lesson by using Activity C. The students can fill in the answers and then review. The BAAM Game is the final Review Game.
P.S. Can you give me a thousand dollars? I had a hard time with this one, what would be the answer be?
