Avatars
« on: September 20, 2006, 08:39:06 pm »
If you want to use your own avatar, such as a picture of yourself doing something memorable (or whatever), then just follow these instructions:

STEP 1:
Click this link:  http://waygook.org/index.php?action=profile

STEP 2:
Then select the radio box that says "I will upload my own picture".

STEP 3:
Press the "Choose File" button.

STEP 4:
Browse the picture file on your computer (whatever_your_pictu re.jpg).

STEP 5:
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Change Profile"... and you're done.

Heya, sorry for the late reply.  I try to browse each section regularly, but I missed this one.

There's not file size limit per say, just a dimensional limit.  For external links to a url outside waygook, it used to be 60pixels by 60pixels, and for an uploaded file it was 125pixels by 125pixels.  If you want that increased a bit, just let me know :)

edit:  I just increased it to 200x200 which should work for most people?

It seems to auto resize, so sizing it yourself isn't necessary

What the hell is "radio box" and where on the page do I find it?
The Ks once gave me five minutes notice. I didn't know what to do with the extra time.

Hi, sorry to be awkward but your link isn't working for me ( it just sends me to your profile) and I'm only new so can't see the attachments.

I'm having a problem uploading an avatar.... I have tried shrinking the thing down to a microbe to ensure I'm under any file size / pixel limits.  I keep getting a generic error "Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.".... it returns this error instantly.  Any advice on uploading?  Is .jpg format not accepted?

Can I ask  a stupid question re: Avatars?

I've noticed quite a few profiles have animated GIFs and decided I wanted one too.

I've tried saving a GIF to my hard drive and uploading it.
I've tried linking directly to the GIF URL.

But no matter what I try, once it appears, it is clearly NOT animated and therefore, just an image. What am I doing wrong?

it has to be smaller than 200x200 pixels. if you do a search for a 'gif resizer' on google, you can change the size of your chosen gif, and use it as your avatar. hope that helps!!
use google to search the site

site:waygook.org XXXX

replace 'XXXX' with your search term
