About to use this lesson with my students, I like the shipwreck PPT best as it gives some more detailed questions on how to use the objects.  The only thing I'm changing is making the sailboat lost at sea instead of sinking, just because of the Sewol stuff...I think it might still be a sensitive issue at my school,  Don't want to make things weird!

Thanks so much! I can either use this for my summer camp or for a lesson post exams this week.

I didn't have dice so I re-vamped the game so that students choose mystery blocks instead of rolling dice...it works really well.
I found this game to just be around 40 minutes when I played it.
It's a fun filler. Thanks to the OP who made it! Saved my butt a few times.

I liked the idea so I downloaded the PPT and worksheets. However on the day of class the computer was not working. I ended up handing out the worksheet anyways, wrote "survival" on the board, asked students what it meant, etc. Put students into pairs and had them think of their own 5 items they would need to survive.

After that, I had the students present their 5 items, giving explanations for why and how they would use them. Other students would listen and find flaws in their survival plan. Then awarded Minus Points.. ( you were missing a weapon and clothing Minus 2 points) ( I also awards Plus points for some students with ridiculous answers like Bear Grylls because he is "Survival god" .. )

For some reason it went over swimmingly. Full student participation and... gotta love when no PPT is needed. I thought it might be a fluke but I tried the same thing again and my other 2nd grade classes got just as into it as well.

Sometimes simplicity and a little competition just works.. ?

I did a small revamp to the original post, and added a point system to the end, so the kids can compare how well they did against each other.

The points slides are grouped together by common usage and from most useful to least useful.  If they have two or three things on a single slide, only the largest point value should be counted, and the others counted as ZERO, as they are redundant.

A perfect score is 150, with the axe, tent, whiskey, magnifying glass, and rope selected.

I've done a lesson like this in the past and it was very successful. But ever since the Sewol incident, I'm hesitant to teach this lesson.

Just something to keep in mind..

Man, I love this game! I had something VERY similar when I taught as a science teacher in the States.  My 6th graders LOVED this game! When we had downtime before the Winter Holiday, they would perk up and ask, "Desert Island?" I'd use it too reinforce variables (what you would take out or add and how it would change the results).

I would sigh (happily) and sarcastically (kindly) while saying, "Okkaaaaay..." Cheers abound from the students.

Ahh, the memories!

Really looking forward to using this game with my class today, we recently had a lesson about life on a desert island so this will tie in very nicely indeed. Thanks for posting!
