« on: September 07, 2011, 06:11:46 PM »
Here are some activities i made for chapter 10

- 1 - Hidden Picture Game .... tiles are removed from the picture one by one. the first team to guess the picture and use the key sentences get points.

- 2 - Big / Small Guessing Game (remade from a previous upload - better pictures / capitalized writing removed / points added) - thanks for the initial upload though)

Enjoy

Grade 3 - Lesson 10 - It's Big (Frances Sohn)
« Reply #1 on: September 08, 2011, 11:18:27 AM »
Hi everyone,

This is my first time uploading a lesson plan and I hope I am successful in doing so.

My school is already at lesson 10 and there has been no thread yet.  So I have decided to start and upload the material I will be using for the 2nd period of this lesson.

First I will have the students listen to a song about going to the zoo.  It is one of the popular nursery rhymes/songs.  Here is the link .

Then I will have watch a video clip about the zoo and afterwards they have to tell me what animals they saw at the zoo.  Here is the link.

Lastly, I have added the ppt file I will be using to practice the vocabulary and target language.

Feel free to change as you like.  Hope somebody gets any joy from this.

This might be a good site to use somehow in this lesson. It goes through animals in the zoo and you have to match the upper case letter and lower case letter that the animal begins with. I think while doing this you can ask questions for each animal like if it's short, small, big, tall, etc. from the lesson.

once there click Alphabet Zoo

I did change the ppt to use my own pictures from my own zoo visits.  My kids love seeing that I have a real life.

Also, I'm going to use the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  I'm including a video file and a bunch of cut outs that you can use with your kids.  I think I'm going to have mine color them and make them into a book.  :)

Grade 3 Lesson 10 "It's big"
« Reply #6 on: September 15, 2011, 02:45:19 PM »
This is the lesson I've prepared.
I show a video (Big small short and long) from Youtube.
I then show the PPT.
Students can shout big or small, tall or short. Another variation - use signs and put the students into gorups. They can then guess as a team as to which word to use. Again, this is grade 3 so I've kept it simple.

Enjoy!

PowerPoint game - Who am I
« Reply #7 on: September 16, 2011, 02:47:43 PM »
This is a quick Powerpoint game for the Lesson 10 "It's big." Divide the class into two or three teams, have them take turns choosing a question. If they get it right, they get the points. If they get it wrong, the other team has a chance to steal the points. My kids had fun and were enthusiastic.

GRADE 3 - Lesson 10 - It's Big (Yellow Book with Blue Globe)
« Reply #8 on: September 16, 2011, 04:00:42 PM »
Big Or Small Guessing Game (originally posted by another user - ive added more pictures, better quality pictures and a points system)

- students must guess if the hidden pictures are 'bigger' or 'smaller' than the initial picture. they get points for guessing correctly. at each stage the key sentences should be said out loud by the students.

Big Small (Grammar Intro) - good slide show to use as an introduction (again, originally made by someone else - ive added some slides to introduce 'long' and 'short' as well as correcting some capitalization mistakes in the original.

Hidden Picture - Its Big - an adaption of the hidden word game that's knocking around. I have made my own version, click a tile to make it disappear. click the star to remove all tiles ... students get points for guessing what the hidden picture is.

Sesame Street - Big & Small - a fun video for the lesson

hope these help some people, let me know if you think of any improvements.

Patrick

Here is another PPT intro. This one combines two previous ones, with a few changes. It introduces, "Look at the  X," "What's that? It's a X," "It's big/small/short/tall," and "Yes, it is/No, it isn't."

The second file is a Cookie Monster Bomb Game. I borrowed some parts from a different section and changed the rest to match this lesson's key expressions. After the points slide are a few example slides (I guess?). I didn't want to mess with all the hyperlinks, so I just left them there.

Comparatives PPT I put together at the request of my CT. It includes the books adjectives (big, small, tall, short) and animals (elephant, mouse, giraffe, penguin) with the inclusion of a few more adjectives and nouns (car, classroom, window, turtle, slow, fast, new old, etc.)

PLEASE TAKE

I like the guessing game a lot, but don't you think it would be a bit better if it was consistent so that the arrows always pointed to the new picture instead of randomly? And the points - maybe it's better if they were positively awarded for the correct guess instead of randomly positive or negative? It seems like the real random factor would really just confuse the kids and they wouldn't find motivation to try and correctly guess what the picture is going to be. Just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing :)

I updated a ppt I found on here. Just changed some pictures and made it a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

I'm having the students hold up signs saying "Big" "short" "tall" Small" (from another post on this thread.)

:)

« Reply #13 on: September 22, 2011, 10:40:49 PM »
I already talked ABOUT BIG,SMALL, Whenever I teach the 3 period on each lesson, I put little difficult words. Instead of elephant, mouse, I added cheetah, gorilla. Instead of big, small, I added its fast, its clean, its old.
Is there anyone that can give me ideas about how to add an activity? like a game
please help

What about a hidden picture/guessing game?

Students identify the animals as they are revealed, then make a statement using an adjective for bonus points.

For example: It's a sleepy chicken / It's a hungry cat

Here is an example PPT. I Hope it helps.

Revised tile guessing game (it's at the end of the PPT). Students get to practice in teams choosing the letter they want to remove by saying "Big A" or "Small A" (for example). They then get one chance to say "It's a .... (elephant!)" and "It's big!". If they don't know, they say "I don't know" and the next team gets to go. It went very well. Every student was engaged and they all had a chance to use the vocabulary, at the very minimum "small" and "big", as well as "I don't know" (which isn't a part of the chapter, but is a useful expression anyway).

Thanks ericadann.  I actually got a lot of use for this ppt.  I've peppered it a bit to fit the level of English at my school, which is high.  I decided to add a few more adjectives aside from just big/tall, etc; and add words like: tiny, humongous, etc.  This could useful for those who have high level 3rd graders.

The original title was: Grade 3 - Lesson 10 - Period 2 (Vocab Intro) (2)
And the one I'm uploading is: Grade 3 Lesson 10.4

Enjoy

AROUND THE WORLD  powerpoint.

I visited the book's suggested site and made a ppt of various summer olympic mascots and stadiums . The last two slides use both the individual names and the collective name "Fuwa" of the 2008 Beijing mascots this is primairly because spelling out all of their names in the title section resulted in smaller font than I was wishing for. So don't be surprised that one slide says "Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingyin and Nini, while the other slide says The Fuwa.  ;)

PLEASE TAKEEEEEEEEE 8)
