Hi Everyone

Here are my materials for the first period. These are for low level students.  The ppt just covers the numbers 1-12 and the differences between watch and clock.  I got the simpsons board game from a post last year and made some changes for low level students.

Cheers

I opened the lesson with a song from 2pm and then one from 2am to warm up.

Later we practiced ''what time do you (eat breakfast, brush your teeth... etc) the volunteer had to tell me the time and show me on a clock with mobile hands.

After teaching early and late I played this game:

split the group into teams and then have each team guess "What time do I (the teacher) eat breakfast, go to bed.. etc" the group has to say the time aloud and show me on the clock.  Then i either respond with '' too early or too late" or YES! If they get it the first try the get 3 points if its wrong the next team knows to guess earlier or later and gets 2 points for a correct answer. if wrong the next team gets one point. After that I get a point (the kids really didn't want me to have points!)

It was a blast!

Here are two "Chase the Vocab" games, 1 for simple telling, and one with hands of the clock, for advanced classes. Suit, mix, etc, as befits your class. ^^

Period 1 Activities:

1. Introduce time with this activity. Draw a clock on the board. Ask, "What picture is this?" Repeat "Clock." Write the number 1 to the left of the clock. Repeat, "one." Write "0" in between 1 and the clock. Repeat, "Oh." All together, "One-Oh-Clock." Erase 1 and put a different number. Then erase the clock and put in a number. Then erase "Oh" and put in a number.

2. Time Bingo. Fold a piece of paper into thirds to make 9 squares. In each square draw a clock. Choose a random time for each clock. Play Bingo.  To save time prepare the bingo board in advance. *Attached is a 16 square Bingo board. Students draw the hour hand and the answer is either _o'clock or _:10.

3. 13 game (time modification). With everyone standing up, the first students says "One o'clock." The 2nd says "Two o'clock." Third, "Three o'clock." and so on. Whoever is 13 dies (sits down) because there is no "Thirteen o'clock." The next student starts with "one o'clock" Keep going until there are a few students left standing.

4. What time is it, Mr. Wolf?  One student is chosen as the wolf.  The other students stand at the other end of the room and ask, "What time is it, Mr. Wolf?" The wolf says, "It's 5 o'clock." The students take 5 steps toward the wolf. Tiny steps with one foot directly in front of the other.  Then they ask again "What time is it, Mr. Wolf?" At a random time the Wolf says "It's time for lunch!" and runs after the students tagging one of them. The tagged student becomes the wolf.

The playground is too far so we play in the classroom. Push the desks out of the way and tell the students to be extra careful. I have 30 students in each class so only half the class plays at a time. Usually girls first while the boys stand against the wall and wait. Then switch.

Here are several other threads that talk about time:

Here are some worksheets that I found at starfall.com. It is a really great website for phonics because they have all these free materials.
I have posted the letters I-L. I also took the idea for the previous post and did a ppt with the words from the worksheets and textbook. As stated above, the teacher says the word and  have the students raise their letter cards (from the text book). For example, if the teacher says Kiwi ( and shows it on the ppt), the students should show their letter k cards. If you want you can have the students keep points and at the end give stickers to those that get the most right.

Cheers

Here is a simple PPT for the first period to intro the lesson. Hope it saves you some time. Add or change whatever you need.

Here is a great snakes and ladders game that a co-teacher had shared with me in the past, modified to fit this unit.  I've added  some pictures to augment the lesson material, as my students are a bit more advanced, but feel free to change the template as you see fit.  The pictures are "It's time for lunch/homework/school" etc.  Not too difficult.  You'll need dice to play with your class.  Also, it's in .hwp format.  I believe that is what most schools are using, but if someone can convert it to a .doc file, that'd be great!

Saving you time and effort. Here is a video that some may know about and others may not know about.
I use this to get my kids pumped about time in a bounce around way. Just follow the song it explains itself.

I've attatched a ppt that show the words over 5 slides.

Enjoy it until I'm able to save you again.

Attached is a Mario game for Lesson 9.  It includes "what time is it" and a review from the last chapter, "Look! It's Blue."
Thanks to Jennifer for the original template!

I created a powerpoint about the different timezones. I choose places the students might know. I used 9:00 am Seoul time as my indicator. I used this lesson at the end of the whole unit. I hope you enjoy it.

I would really like to use the Simpson's "What time is it" board game but for some reason it will not print for me.  Did anyone else have any problems?

Ignore my last message.  The board game wouldn't work on my computer at school but it did on a friends computer at her school so she is printing me a copy! Thanks for the game Maureen!

Here is a Pass the Ball game for this chapter also.
