Grade 2 Lesson 10 Life Lessons
« on: October 19, 2010, 11:21:04 am »
Okay, so here's a powerpoint I put together last night in some haste... so sorry it's not that spectacular but it definitely worked for eating up about 15 minutes worth of class time to introduce the new lesson.  If anyone has any games or worksheets to contribute, please put them on here as I'm looking for something to add to my open class next week. Thanks a ton and enjoy~!

I had such a hard time coming up with something for this chapter, but here's the ppt i did. You'll probably have to tinker with it. I do the videos and questions for the 'In Conversation' portions, so there's an allusion to it on the last slide. For the final activity, I bought a Spongebob comic book and cut out a page. I whited out the word blurbs and then made photocopies so they could make their own dialogue with target language from the chapter or from the class.

K, here's a cryptogram worksheet which I just put together really quick that goes along with some of the key phrases from the chapter as well as the powerpoint which I contributed previously.  Should keep the kids busy for quite a while.  Enjoy~!

Thanks guys!!! I teach this one tomorrow.  I'll post my lesson if it's successful. Oh, I noticed at the end of your powerpoint you had a picture from the book.  Do you have videos that go along with the book?  Where do you get them from?

The middle school grade 2 textbook is online here:

http://textbook.doosandonga.com/update/mid_enkim2/ETBookBase.htm

I'm only responsible for teaching the 'In Conversation' portion, which as a general rule, sucks.

Have you looked at chapter 11 yet? The target language is all over the board...sigh.

Woah, that website will be really useful for going over the answers.  Thanks a ton!  Yeah, I have the same responsibility at my school.  I have to make those 3 pages last for 2 lessons! So usually teach from the book for about 15 mins and the other 30 mins I do something totally unrelated as its too hard to find a theme in the expressions they teach.

I'm doing idioms this week, so I don't want to do it again for this lesson. I'm going to cover some phrasal verbs related to emotions and then do a portion on superstitions. I'll post it sometime this week. I'm also mildly excited about the prospect of telling them that fan death is not real.

Here's a very simple powerpoint that I threw together last year for this lesson. Depending on the level of your students you can make it last for a while or you can breeze through it. It's not huge and it's based out of the book. Hope it helps someone.

That's really useful Sheila thanks - nice pics on your .ppt - I'll use that and extend it a little with my classes in the fall semester.

I was looking for something kind of fun to introduce this chapter and I found this video on YouTube.  Basically, everything the guy in the video tries to do goes terribly wrong.  I'm going to show the video to introduce how we respond when someone tells us something bad happened to them.

Enjoy!

I created a battleship for this lesson. PPT is used for explaining how to play to the students. Hope you enjoy it.
Easy to change if you don't like it as well.

Sorry i forgot to attach it before.

Cheers for the youtube video that will be the only thing saving this lesson. It is a seriously morose topic.

Does anyone have the link to the same thing for the grade 3 book?

Great game rookiewaygook! Using these worksheets to make sure my kids get it before playing the game.

EDIT: Noticed a typo on the first worksheet, the last question should read "I broke my cellphone." not "I broke up with my boyfriend/girlfriend."
