KPOP CHALLENGE: With Music Clips
« on: September 23, 2011, 11:29:48 AM »
The Jist (also explained in the powerpoint):

This powerpoint has a different KPOP song on each slide. There are also letters in green boxes. If you click on the boxes, names of KPOP bands appear. If they get the band that matches the song, then they can get points. But really, change it up to how you like doing things, the cool thing about this powerpoint is that it has the clips of the songs and the animations.

My friend gave me this powerpoint, and she may have gotten it from waygook, idk. But I took it and changed it so it pertains to what we're teaching (thomas orr, 1st graders speak out lesson 9). Also, it used to be for elementary school kids, so it used to be all pink and cutesy with a puppy dog, but I kinda hipstered it out a bit. A lot a bit.

Here is the answer key, for those of you who don't know KPOP (like myself):

1. 2NE1 - I am the best
2. 2PM - Hands up
3. 4Minute - Heart to Heart
4. 10CM - Americano
5. BoA - Hurricane Venus
6. f(x) - Hot Summer
7. IU - Good Day
8. Miss A - Bad Girl, Good Girl
9. Secret - Starlight, Moonlight
10. SHINee - Hello
11. Sistar19 - Ma Boy
12. Super Junior - Mr. Simple
13. T-ara - Roly Poly
14. B2ST - On Rainy Days
15. Wonder Girls - Nobody

This lesson would help me with connecting with the students on things that they already know.

i've changed the format of the game and just go thru the 15 songs in a team game format but this has been a great help in making my class 'cool' all of a sudden. students get carried away singing the songs and doing the dance moves. this is useful in my lower level classes which have very low comprehension and hard to motivate so this is something they can relate to. thanks for posting this!  ;D

Thank you so much for this excellent lesson plan! My students were so incredibly happy. I used this lesson for first, second and third graders. I modified it by only changing the dialogue in the second portion of the ppt, and continuing with the same scoring method as the first half. Although I only awarded one point to students who chose the correct square.

I had to write the dialogue out on the board for the students because they are a bit low level and memorizing was not going to happen.

I also had the second and third graders use a survey worksheet. They filled it out with their friends favorite band, song and band member. I had the third graders stand up and share the information about one person that they interviewed.

I then had the third graders listen to the song Beautiful by Beast and the CN blue song  love girl and had them write down as many english Lyrics as they could. This worked really well, I think they loved it. Afterwards I had them count how many sentences they had written, I think just knowing that this guage was coming made them even more focused on writing the second time.

I also prepared a cloze type activity where the words to SHINee's Hello and CN blue were in English. I then removed some of the words and gave them a copy of the lyrics in Korean, with the idea that they would be able to fill in the blanks by translating. I teach at a rural low level school so when I handed out the activity the students were just like " teacher I don't understand". I ended up just giving them the survey paper which worked  really well.  I will attach the cloze activity just incase someone has higher level students or just in case someone has a better idea about how to modify them and make it more understandable to students.  I want to repeat, the cloze activity did not go well with my students but that was because it did not suit their language ability. If you have more advanced city kids going to hagwons the material may have some value to you.

Thank you so much for this wonderful lesson. The kids were so excited and so happy, it was better than Christmas.

Hey!! Thanks for sharing a great slideshow! I used it today with one of my classes and they enjoyed it. I made a very basic worksheet if you guys want to use it or adapt it - go ahead.

I was wondering how you guys went about to hand out points to teams. For example: Did one team have a chance to pick A,B,C or D...and if they were wrong, it is the next team's turn...or would the same team go until they get the right block?!
