For whatever it's worth, Lesson 10 in this book coincides almost perfectly with the previous country-wide curriculum, entitled "I Can Swim." Most of the vocabulary should be the same, with the possible exception of frog and zebra.

May save some time, but do post new materials, if you can!

My kids had a blast doing this ppt book/song at the end. I first asked for two volunteers to act out the actions the first time .. and say "I can do it" the second time through the entire class wanted to do it.. it was hilarious and soo much fun!

here is a good motivational abc phonics song to play at the beginning of class

Since my students are very low level, I find it useful to play different phonics songs at the beginning of the 3rd period lesson to review all the letters

here are my materials for the 3rd period class
the worksheets you can get for free at starfall.com  I find more writing practice to be necessary for low level students.  if your students are at a higher level, don't waste your time.
the ppt phonics game I made that is pretty simple.  Remember that the sparkle motion is just wiggling your fingers.

Happy Teaching!

Two games you can do for section 3:
1) have students line up in their teams. Give the last student a letter. He/she must then "write" the letter on the person who is in front of him using his/her finger. The chain keeps going until the letter gets to the front. First team to write the letter on the board wins! I suggest 2 or 3 teams at a time because it can get chaotic.

2)Come up with a list of level appropriate words starting with the letters M, N, O. Divide the Ss into groups. One at a time, have one person from each group go up to the board. Tell them the word, and they should write the letter with which the word starts. For extra points, I have them write upper and lower case. Since the Ss are learning to write the letters, this is a great game to practive writing, and to train their ears for spelling.

This is an I can jump clap game. There is a link in the beginning to a youtube song.

I wanted to do the whole song right to the end, but I stop after koala. I didn't want this to go on too long.

I created a bingo that goes together with the "From Head to Toe" song. After having the Ss do the movements as they sing the song, have them go around the room and ask the questions on the bingo to other Ss. If the other student says "I can" then they have to do the movement and then they can write their name on the corresponding box. First 3 to complete bingo, get a coupon. Make sure to go around the room so that they don't cheap; you should see Ss doing the movements all around hehehe.

This is a survey game where you can see who can do the most activities in the given amount of time. After completing each activity the teacher/ other students will sign off if the students CAN or CAN'T do the activity.  I have attached my worksheet that i will distribute to each child.

I've made a Starcraft .ppt game that includes more daily routines/sports activities for slightly more advanced students.  Target language includes: "Can you______(ride a bike; play basketball/volleyball/badminton; fly a kite; etc.)?" Yes, I can./ No, I can't."  It shouldn't be too difficult for most classes and my students really enjoyed playing it.  A good activity for a fourth period reward.

That is the first time I've seen the starcraft game and I have to say its amazing! My only problem is that for some reason the board resets everytime and the questions the students have already answered don't disappear. Does anyone know why this is?

Hi Everyone,

Maybe you've finished teaching lesson 10 for 3rd grade, but just in case here is a PowerPoint show, which includes two games at the end. Enjoy...

The Pumpkin Video was really good and my kids loved it. Thank you. It was nice to have something that wasn't the same old ' listen and repeat" stuff. Good motivation opener.

MattyDub Explorer: the StarCraft game was awesome. My kids loved the graphics and the audio that went with it. I would have to make one suggestion and that is maybe have more" target sentences" use more words and animals than the same ones. In level one, the target sentences and animals repeat several times. The more advanced ones were bored after seeing the same animal and action for 3 times in a row. I say have every question be a different animal and action.  :P

This is probably a bit late but I have had a bunch of cancelled classes recently.

Here is a clap game for the alphabet (a-p) and also a ppt/game to practice can you? Where it says do it I make the students who answered yes to the question do it in class. After the first one they are more cautious with their answer.
