I modified some materials from other posters, making some practice slides to differentiate between "let's play" "let's go" and "let's do," as well as "sorry I can't, I'm ______." Then there is a Mario game using the practice slides.  Thanks to the original posters.

Here is a lesson on Sports and Sports Equipment to go with Lesson 13.  Powerpoint and two puzzle worksheets.  the words they unscramble on the first side of the worksheet are the same words they need to find in the word search.

These Power Points were designed last year for chapter 12 in another book, but the material is still perfect for chapter 13 "Let's Play Soccer".
So, don't get thrown off by the titles of these Power Points. They're good stuff, designed and / or tweaked by a fellow co-worker "Jonathan Bliss".

Here is my Lesson 1 PPT. My entire half of the lesson is contained here. First is a vocabulary/target language input/review, followed by a "What's Missing" section. After that the Ss practice the chapter's dialogue with a pass the dice game. My classroom has a set of oversized dice so I start them at opposite ends of the class. When the music stops each student with a die takes one half of the dialogue/role play.

I used the activity for Lesson 2 in my first lesson. It's a team board game where the Ss advance by flipping a coin on it's head side. The rules are visually outlined fairly well in the PPT but you'll probably need your co-teacher to explain some. There is a smaller version of the game on page 109 of the book but I expanded it a little bit.

I just tried this lesson with an unruly group of 4th graders and it took upwards of 20 minutes, we didn't even get a chance to start the game. I'd suggest alloting 30 minutes in total if you want to use the entire PPT/Lesson. If not, just mix and match as needed

cheers

Word scramble. The secret code reads "Lets play soccer." Made a word doc that fits two to a page.
Enjoy!

Hey everyone.

I just did this lesson today and it went really well.

I've uploaded the Ppt. It has a review followed by a heads up seven up game.

I'm hoping most of you know how to play this game.

Basically seven kids come up to the front and they are given sports cards. (see attached file).  The rest of the class has to put their heads down and put their thumbs up. The seven kids give their cards to a student by placing it on their desk and putting their thumbs down.  Once everyone has a card they come back to the front of the class.

The seven kids who were given a card stand up and go one by one trying to guess who gave them the card. They do this by using the key expression they have learned.

example:
student 1: Bob, let's play soccer.
Bob (if he didn't give it to student 1 has to say): Sorry I can't. or Sorry, I can't i'm busy or sorry, I can't. I'm sick.

Student 1 gets another turn.

Student 1: Sara, Let's play soccer.
sara: Sounds good! (if she gave him the card. )

Each student gets to guess twice.

If the student guesses correctly they switch spots. ( Sara goes to the front and Student 1 sits down. )

You keep playing until all seven have guessed and then repeat. I hope my explanation is clear. If not please message me.

To make this interesting, my co-teacher started making the kids who guessed incorrectly and the students who were originally standing and who had to switch places with another student, go to the back of the class and write out the three key sentences in their notebooks.

it went really well. I hope it works for you folks.

Lesson 13 Let's play soccer
Find the star game ppt

After introducing the pictures and vocab with the beginning of ppt you play by teams. Each incorrect guess is one less point... count how many pictures are left when the star is found and that is how many points that team gets. Next slide is the next teams chance for points.

Here are a couple of ppt intros for "Let's play soccer" modified from other postings to cover the needed vocabulary in our books.

Also here is team writing game for whiteboards that really went over well with my students and a moving word ppt to test  them on spelling the five target words "play" , "baseball", "basketball", "soccer", and "badminton".

Thanks for all your hard work!  I really appreciate everything you did to build a ppt that I merely edited.

I updated this game to use more vocab that's (mostly specific) to this unit and previous vocabulary (we're a little bit of a lower school).  I did add handball and "That's great."  To the vocab.

We're going to give white boards to each team and have them write their answers to go with period 3.

Here is a worksheet for this chapter.  It has sections for practicing writing the key words and phrases, making sentences based on pictures, a wordsearch, a crossword, an unscramble the words, and a tongue twister.

And it's all on one page.  =)

A Prezi for practicing the key expressions of this lesson.  I made it public, so you can copy and edit it if you want.

http://prezi.com/whutofkhofzl/grade-4-lesson-13-lets-play-soccer/

It took up about 10 minutes of class when we did it this way:

1) Picked a student by number (just randomly picking numbers) to say the "Lets... " phrase when prompted by a picture of, for example, a basketball in the word balloon, then got the class to repeat the phrase together.

2) The whole class would say the "Sounds good" or "Sorry, I can't, I'm (busy / sick)." phrases together when they saw the picture prompts.

The students were pretty engaged in the activity -- the pictures are good (some are funny), and picking students randomly for the "Let's..." part kept most of them on their toes.

Oh, also -- I counted on the students to say "Let's ride a bike" instead of "Let's ride bikes," and I showed a picture of several people on one bike, cause that's what it sounds like to me.  So we explained how that can sound, and then the next one is "Let's ride bikes."

Update:  sometimes lately Prezis don't open right the first time -- if it doesn't work at first, just reload till it does.  Or better yet, copy it to your own account and download it from there to your computer or USB.
