How To Survive A Zombie Attack (Grades 2 & 3)
« on: November 09, 2010, 07:04:39 PM »
This is a variation on the traditional "desert island" lesson. Basically, I asked the kids to think about what they would need and how they would survive if zombies attacked our city.

It's a 2-part lesson, so it's ideal for an after-school class, but I taught it during my regular classes. This lesson works best with higher-level students, but my mid-level kids still enjoyed it.

The .pdf is the worksheet and the .doc files are the lesson plans. Enjoy!

I saw you post this on the Daegu page on facebook and totally loved it. I combined your lesson with another teacher's zombie-oriented lesson and made it a three-day affair a couple weeks ago. It was way fun! Thanks so much for sharing.

they absolutely loved it. i got some really detailed answers, in part because i told them that the more detail a team put into their plan, the more likely they were to win. one team even drew tiny pictures all over their worksheet of the things they needed for their survival kit. it was awesome.

Thank you for your hard work , I am using this today with my high school, lower level students. My co-teacher said, "Students like zombies and they like attack so they will love this" ;)

Such a well thought out lesson. It really engaged my after school class of middle school boys. I happened to stumble upon this choose your own adventure style zombie survival youtube video that maybe other teachers might be interested in using. There is very little dialog  and cheesy special effects. The scenes are taken from Night of the Living Dead.

Thanks again.

I used this last week for my all-boys night class.  Their levels are mixed, so I used the "Basic" PPT provided.  Just wanted to say THANK YOU for all your hard work!  It was a hit!  Today I have night class again and will announce the winners (aka survivors) of the zombie attack!  Thanks!  ;D

Cheers~

I used this with my boys' middle school classes - grade 2.  Thanks, it worked well and got them speaking to one another which was good.  I've added another ppt to 'mark' the worksheets - saves me doing it if they self mark during class.

This is brilliant, everybody!  Thank you!  Going to try this out on my 3rd grade monsters today.

I'm using both the original basic ppt and the "Zombie Adventure Story" in this thread to keep score.  I'm throwing in the added complication of rewarding students who volunteer and raise their hands to answer questions during the first powerpoint...the team with the most participation points gets first choice of weapons!  The team with the least participation points gets stuck with a teddy bear as their weapon, hehe

How To Survive A Zombie Attack ****(ADAPTED VERSION)****

HUGE kudos to jterrwyn for the original posting of this lesson plan!!! Hope you dont mind me messing with your awesome lesson!! -_-;;

I have adapted the PPT slides to better suit my own teaching style (i.e. added some [lame] humour and more lead in). The original is just as good but some teachers may prefer this format.

I also altered the lesson plan, and a basic repost of the worksheet.
