Easy reading and writing lesson for middle school
« on: November 15, 2011, 01:37:54 pm »
I've been looking through my old usbs for lessons for the next couple of weeks of winging it without a book. I found this one that actually worked rather well. The story and pictures are from tarheel reader, and I made the worksheet.  So how I did it last year was to hand out the worksheet, have the students match the vocab, go over the answers on the ppt (the vocab is scrambled, they guess the word, then I show them the answer with the translation), students take turns reading each slide, and afterwards the students answer the comprehension questions about the story. On the back of that worksheet is space for the students to continue the story. They write about what they think happened to one of the characters in the story. If there is time, and there usually is, I"ll choose a few students to read their stories to the class.

The story is in the ppt. But it's from the website tarheelreader.org I believe, or maybe it's .com, anyway just Google tar heel reader. But it's the exact same story on the website as it is in the ppt. So either way....

Thanks so much! Looks really good. I will use this for my winter reading and writing camp. Combines both of them. Thanks again!
