Hi guys! I did an angry birds PPT and game for this lesson, as a practice!
My kids BEGGED me for an angry bird lesson, so I finally gave in.

For the next class, (they already know they have to do it) they're going to have to stand up and tell the class what they did on the weekend. Some kids will just say "I watched TV" or "I played soccer" even if they didn't, because they already know the phrase, but thats ok.
The whole class will say "Did you have a nice weekend?", the student will say "Yes I did. I _______________" and the class will finish with "good for you."

** for the main PPT, when "I ______." comes up, click the angry bird saying it, and it will pop up what they are doing. Click the angry bird on that slide to back to the slide you were on.
It makes more sense when you do it as a slide show, then when you are looking at the slides.
(If you hit next after "I went to the market," etc, there will be a second sentence. You can just click the angry bird if you don't want to do it)

Thanks for the input. Here are my materials... a HOTSEAT game, where one kid from each team has to guess what is behind them on the TV screen (with hints given from team mates), then get an extra 5 points for putting the word into a PAST TENSE sentence :)

Thanks for the awesome powerpoints.

For me, I played the RSP game, with the sentences they need to say.

2 teams, opposite ends of the board, at least 6 sentences on the board. 1st students go down the line towards each other saying the sentences, meet at the middle and play RSP. Winner keeps going, loser goes to the back of his line, then the next person in line starts at his end. First team to reach the end, wins a point.

Here are the sentences I used:

Did you have a nice weekend?
I went to the beach.
I watched a movie.
I had fun!
I stayed home.
Good for you!

The kids love this game.

Your powerpoints were very well done and engaging. I recommend putting the directions on the first slide so people dont forget.

If anyone needs ideas or other materials, check out 5th and 6th grade lessons on past tense.

I have included a vocabulary ppt (incl. spelling), plus a 2nd period review. The vocab ppt calls on students' prior knowledge of what the words are from Korean to English. Hopefully you can use these for the 2012 school year.

Here are a couple games that worked really well for me. They are just modified versions of some other peoples great work(thanks).

The first game is a bingo game where the kids have to guess the words to be written down.

The second is the nicer looking Mario game. The last level is unfinished so if you plan to play the game all the way through to the end you might want to add to it.

Here is a simple multiple choice/T-F quiz game for teams, for the end of 14.1 or beginning of 14.2. I give each team a whiteboard and marker. The teacher reads the question, and the options. They simply write down, A, B, C, or D or T/F. The competition gets them going.

You'll need to change the question and answers on the last slide as it is personalized from my class introduction/greeting. Made in Mac PPT so it might need some other tweaking as well.

power point for sounds on page 121. It reviws the three words in the book (home, close, open) and then there is a quick quiz game thing where they have to pick out which word has the "o" sound.

A fun "Grab Game" for 14.2-3. Print off key sentences (at end of PPT) and laminate them, or put them in clear plastic covers. Spread them out randomly on the floor in the front of the room. Review the phrases in the PPT. Then get in teams of 4-5. Number off students 1, 2, 3, 4... Have #1 students come up to the front. Show the picture, and the students race to be the first to find the matching sentence. The first to hold it up and read it wins a point for their team. Sometimes it will end up in a dog pile, so make sure there is plenty of room and no sharp objects around. We have a big open stage in our English room so it worked well.
