Here is a quiz I made about telling the difference between Korean, Japanese, and Chinese people. It's pretty fun. Most students assume they can tell the difference but they're challenged and surprised when they're faced with a test.

A quick cultural ppt. I used the flags from this article
http://twistedsifter.com/2011/10/flags-made-from-food/
I have the students guess the country's flag and then guess the food used to make it.

I found an AMAZING Totoro bomb game here (by amores) so I just used that and added in my own review questions for this chapter. Enjoy!

Hi guys!
I made a Teacher's Pay Teacher's account and uploaded some activities for this lesson onto it. There is an intro pennant, a speaking activity, and a worksheet. It's free. I plan to make more as the year goes on.

Maps of the World.
Have a list of a few countries from each part of the world. Say the name of a country and have the student come up to point to where he/she thinks it's on the map.
Then, you can either have them just say it out loud, or write on the board:
Example: "I'm from Italy." and "I'm Italian."

I changed the Star Power game to a Star Wars Game.
You can just edit the two slides to your name, country and photo.
I play rock, scissor, paper with the person who chooses a letter. If I win, I click the X button, if I lose, I click the O button.
Also ask them, for example:
"I'm from Ireland."
"I'm _____?"
Answer the student should give you: "I'm Irish."

Grade 5 Lesson 1 Fancy Dinner Party

Hey all,
First post here on Waygook. I just made this lesson for Grade 5 Lesson 1. Using the backdrop of going to a fancy dinner party. Students will use the key expressions:
1) Where are you from?
2) I'm from ______.
Count off the students with #s 1-7. These groups will identify where in the world the student is from. Students will mingle (like at a party) and introduce themselves to their classmates. This is when they will use the key expressions. Students need to check the box for a country once they meet someone from there. Their goal is to meet someone from every country.
Gets them speaking and moving! The fancy party theme leads to appropriate behavior as well.
Enjoy and let me know if it works out for you.

Lots of good materials here already, here's another one to add to the pot. (This is a near-duplicate post I made in another thread, with an altered ppt to match this lesson).
This game I've been playing with my students for quite a while, and while the focus is on writing, they are also required to speak and read.
Rules:
-Play in groups.
-Draw a rectangle divided into four on the blackboard, similar as the PPT's.
-Students should read the sentences. For example, "Where is she from? She is from _______." then have them choose in their groups one of four countries.
-Each student in every group should write the complete sentence as shown on the slide, including the country name they choose in their group. All members in a group should choose the same country.
-After you check their writing, start with group one and have them read their sentence together. Depending on which country they chose from the slide, write that group's number in the corresponding corner on the rectangle you drew on the blackboard.
-After all groups finish speaking and their groups' numbers are in the various four corners on the blackboard, play the slide and check which corners have bombs, points, etc. Award/take points accordingly.
-Repeat until time/the game is over.
I've found this to be an effective game that involves all students in the various aspects of English development. It's quite fun and they'll no doubt love it. I've included the ppt and also a jpeg with lined paper in case you don't have notebooks. Enjoy.
