Grade 6 - Lesson 8 - I'll Go to Busan by Train - 대교

I took the introductory PowerPoint from the old lesson that someone else posted and I changed it to match the new material. Thank you to the original poster.

I also created dialogue that my co-teacher and I will read to the class and their job is to match the time of the year to the activity and then the locations to the transportation method. On the other side of the paper, I will start by asking the class to tell me what they think are the most common activities students do during the summer. I will write a few on the board. Then, I want the students to write down 3 things that they will do this summer. I will have students who volunteer to share their information. If the activity is on the board, I will mark it. At the end we'll see which activity will be done the most. (If only a few students volunteer, I'll fill up the rest by just taking a class survey and they can raise their hands. For each activity I will then have the entire class repeat the corresponding sentence.)

After this, I will play a game, which I have no yet finished.

Here is a blazing pen game using parts 1 and 2 of this chapter.

Also a Doraemon bomb game for part 1.

I edited some other powerpoints other teachers made from similar chapters in different books. These should follow the model sentences from our text.

Here are some more materials that I made.

MAP PowerPoint: Reviews the main question and answer form for this topic and then continues on to a map. How to use this: Click on the map and you will see the first plane fly from Korea to China. After it stops on China, ask the students: What will you do this ______? Students answer: I will go to China by plane. Click on the slide and that sentence will appear. Then, click on the plane and it will take you to a picture asking "What will you do there?" Students can try to answer based on the picture. Click on the slide and the answer will appear. Click on the picture and it will return to the map. Click on the map and the next trip will take place. Click on the map for the sentence and then click on the transportation to the picture. Repeat :) Those are pictures of me, so you might want to change them.

REVIEW PowerPoint: I added another way of asking the same type of question along with the Korean translation. I took the first fill in the blank from a different book and then created the second one. I will either call on groups or random students to fill in the blanks. After that I typed up the pen-pal letters from the textbook. I will have the class read them with me. After that I will ask the students some questions about the dialogue.

SENTENCES document: After doing the above "REVIEW" PowerPoint, I will hand each group (there are 6 in my class) the sentence strips cut up. I made one page per group. I will ask the groups to put the sentences in order to create a letter. Then, I will have the group read theirs aloud. After doing this I will use the last slide on the "REVIEW" PowerPoint to have the students write their own letter in their notebooks. I will ask students to share their letter and will probably give a piece of candy to whoever reads theirs out loud to the class.

Hey guys,

Story time 4..... I took photos of the 4 pictures that go with the story and have reduced them so all 4 fit on an A4 page.
I don't plan to print them in colour... just black and white

In case anyone is still finishing this chapter and can some use out of this - a Jang Mi Ran vs Kim Dae Jung Game (I changed the ppt from Lee Myung Bak as my co-t's didn't want to see his face!).

I play Jang Mi Ran so the kids have to RSP with me rather than what comes up on the next slide which they get a real kick out of doing.

I got the activity from rockiavelli who posted under (천재교육 Cheonjae/Frances Sohn) Grade 6, Lesson 2 - "I'll Play the Guitar" thread.

I changed the instructions a bit and vocabulary to suit my liking. Good milling activity I do believe.

here is a word search that can be used if there is extra time at the end of a class.
KWS - 20 key words and sentences in korean and english that you can print and give to the students, or use yourself to study

word lotto - good writing activity. there are 7 rounds, each round groups pick 4 words and write them down on paper. each correct word they get points. (super easy)

This is a really simple, easy to prepare game that can be adapted to fit many lessons. It involves pair work, writing and speaking. It's called Secret Sentences

To Play:

1. Print the handout OR just write your own chart on the board.
2. Each student creates a secret sentence & writes it down on the back of the handout, or on a scrap of paper.
The sentence should be structured something like this...
"I'll go to [where] by [how] to [what]." ex. "I'll go to [Busan] by [train] to [go shopping]."
3. Students should try to guess each other's sentences. I had my students guess one word at a time, stacking the sentences like this:
S1: You'll go to China
S2: YES!
S1: You'll go to China by plane.
S2: NO!
S1: You'll go to China by train.
S2: YES! etc.
Keep a tally for each guess. Each guess is one point. The player with the fewest guesses wins!

The guessing part isn't the easiest bit to explain.You're best off giving an example with your Co, the students should pick it up right away.

Here is a craft activity for the lesson, I can't remember what the name is of the game is but I'm sure you / your students will recognise it.

Students make their craft and then speak to their friends moving around the class.

S1 (w/ craft in their hand); What will you do this vacation?
S2; I'll go to [country]
S1; F-R-A-N-C-E
S2; [Chooses a number]
S1; How will you get there?
S2; I'll go there by [mode of transport]
