Anyone else consider the Story Land section on page 146 grossly inappropriate to teach to children in a country with blatant racist issues?

I see it as a great opportunity to make them aware of how racist they are....I told them the girl is very cute....they responded as I thought they would and then I took it from there. The co-teacher was great and told them in Korean how rude it is etc.

This was a board game I modified from Kung Fu Panda.  Not sure who made it but wanted to share my verion of it.  I call this game, One Piece Island Adventure.   My students really enjoyed this game.  So the idea of the game is to end up in the very center of the board as it spirals around.

 Students take turns rolling dice and when they land on a space they read the target sentence,  What a __________!  Now if you don't have dice, you can have them play rock, paper, scissors.  Each one will be a number that they can advance.   rock - 1, paper - 2, scissors - 3  The vocabulary words are long bridge, big mountain,  beautiful palace, tall tower, nice temple and small island.   

I provided a ppt with instructions as well as practice for each vocabulary.   It's a good idea to practice saying the sentences before you begin playing.   Hope this is useful to someone and enjoy.

Snakes and ladders game.
Matching game -  Print and cut out the first page to play in groups.  Students should find matching pictures and then say the sentences. Eg  Do you know about Taj Mahal?  It's a beautiful palace in India. The slides after the first are just to practice with them.

I used a few monster vocabulary words at first, but then switched to target sentences from this lesson, as well as reviewing lesson 9 and 10. 

I added points and changed the font to Chiller for more Halloween-i-ness.  I also only used 8 of the 10 available rounds, since my students usually get bored with writing games around round 8.
