It is so true. This book has made my teaching career that much harder. Plus, I cannot help but laugh at all the crappy acting in the DVD. The kids always look at me when I do and I have to go straight face. Not easy.

Here's a Battleship worksheet (in both *.doc and *.pdf formats) using the expressions in the textbook.

Here's a Simpsons Donut Game I found on this board (props to the creator) then edited to reflect the target language in the textbook.

Here are some of my presentations.

1. Key Expressions PPT
2. Role play with Spongebob and Patrick
3. Unscramble the food name game
4. Reading clap game (students read some sentences while doing corresponding actions)

One more game.

Students play in teams.
One team is asked by the class, "May I take your order?"
That team orders a food item on the board. Under the picture is either points or durian (stinky fruit).
If that team gets points, they can choose to order again or stop. If they order again and find durian, they loose all their points for that round.

The kids get really greedy!

LOL when I was looking for ideas for this lesson I wasn't logged into Waygook and didn't see that huynhln1 had included a Powerpoint in her post! I ended up editing a bomb game I found on this board and making a different "Durian Game." Oh well, it was nice to be productive for a change!  Use the same rules for this game as huynhln1 suggests: students order as many times as they want but they lose all their points if they get a durian.

To get the kids excited for the game I showed my students pictures of durian off Google Images, asked if any of them had eaten durian before and why it was famous. I showed them this "How smelly is the durian?" video as well.

I expanded the Culture Box to make it a little more diverse and interesting. I had the students try to guess what each country was (giving the flag as a hint, followed by the country name and map if they still didn't get it), then the food and how people usually eat that food. Switzerland did end up getting booted out just because I couldn't find another good picture of people eating in Switzerland.

I can't figure out if the audio files are attached or not, but hopefully they are. If not, I just downloaded the national anthem sound files from Wikipedia so you could do the same thing if you wanted.

I wrote a simple, fun restaurant song to teach 'Can I please have a/some ____' I realise the key expression is different but maybe some teachers will find it helpful.
