Threatening anonymous messages from my school on Waygook
« on: February 07, 2013, 11:40:51 am »
Hi, I recently posted an institution review about my current high school. Needless to say, it wasn't kind, but it was totally accurate. This morning, I got an anonymous message that said: my first and last initials, and then "you idiot."

I am pretty sure that no one in the community can connect my screen name to my real identity. Also, it is weird that this message has no context, it just randomly insults me.

But the timing is pretty obvious, and though I don't have any proof, I am pretty sure that this is from my school, and they were careful not to use my full name, for Korean libel laws.

I work at a public school, and it is fairly obvious that it is a sketchy place. Any thoughts on how I should proceed? I did reply to the anonymous poster that it was good to finally hear from my "real" school, not the facade that they attempt to convey.

That's kind of scary.

It's funny you mention it, because soon my school will be looking for a foreign teacher to replace me. I haven't had a good experience with my school, so I've been wrestling with the idea of posting a review about the school, but I know that my co-teacher occasionally uses this site, and as I'm still an employee at the school for another month...I didn't think it would be a wise idea.

Ignore it, maybe? It's such a tough situation. I'm sure lots of posters looking for jobs will appreciate that you posted your honest (even though it's negative) opinion about the school so others know what to expect, but really...it might not have been the smartest move while you're still at the school. Assuming your school has one foreign teacher (you), it's not hard for anyone at the school (if they're familiar with this site) to narrow it down and figure out it was you who posted it. I guess worst case is that your last few weeks/days/whatever at your school might be a little awkward?

Yeah, that is precisely what I posted what I did. I feel it is somewhat my responsibility to tell my story so that no one has to go through the same horrors that I did.
I don't care about it being awkward. It has been awkward for a while and I am generally left on my own at this point.
I am somewhat concerned about them retaliating by not paying me my full recompense, in which I would have to go to the labor board, etc....

Nope, it's not my high school. It's the same troll that has invaded this site. The initials where just a coincidence.

I am guessing it is someone who can't face the truth.

We can find out at least if it's from the school based on the IP.

We made it harder for someone to join and send nasty PMs to users.  Their IP has to be clear on our list, they need to register, they need to post 5 times, before using the PM system.  By that point, empty posts tend to get seen by a mod and they're stopped.

However, some people clearly have no life and are ok wasting their time doing this.  Can't really make it impossible as it would also make it difficult for the rest to communicate on the site.
