This is a lesson for Listen & Speak 1. I prefer not to drill grammar but I thought a little practice on progressive wouldn't hurt, especially since it's part of the target language for the chapter. Let me know what you think.

That worksheet actually confused a lot of my students. I suggest changing the pictures on the ones that are NOT present progressive/continuous to someone doing nothing, maybe laying on a couch in sweats or something funny like that.

Here's my PPT and lesson plan for WEEK 1 of Unit 3. I split each unit into two weeks, so this week's focuses on the "Let's play basketball" key phrases. (Next week will focus on the "What's wrong?" and giving advice, I will update this post with that PPT and lesson when I make it  )

I intro the key phrases, have them gap-fill and speak together as a class, have them do Listen and Speak C and D, and intro different ways to propose activities.

EDIT: Attached is my condensed lesson for three of my classes. Since midterms are next week I need to stuff the unit into a single lesson for half my first graders. I cut out some extra phrases (which were just confusing the students anyway) and added in the material for "What's wrong?" etc. Didn't do the extreme sports activity that I previously mentioned, not enough time.

EDIT 2: Attached is part 2 of unit 3, covering the "what's wrong?" key phrases for an entire lesson. Basically just added some slides to cover the book activities on page 49 and 50.

I modified the ppt that was already posted.

After the "Let's Practice" slide: I have the students stand up in pairs (1 pair per slide) to practice in front of the class.

After the "Make a Conversation" slide: same as above - 2 students stand and use the picture to make a conversation that we just went over.

This is the material I have for Listen and Speak Part 1 of this chapter.

My students just wrapped up Unit 2 on activities around the house, so I included a quick review of that after the warm-up (or mind stretch).

I have my students write the Day's Dialogue and practice it. Then we do a fill-in the gap activity, where all the students stand and try to complete the gap with the appropriate word.  They sit if they make a mistake.  For my lower level classes and students, I let them use their notes.  It's more about practice than precision, after all.

After that we play a Human B-I-N-G-O game, which they have liked.  The first three students finished win stickers, which they collect for candy in the long run.

If there's time after B-I-N-G-O, we play a basketball game.  Students are split into teams and have to listen and answer to questions in order to earn an opportunity to throw a tennis ball into a box with a hole in its bottom.  They win points by making shots. Most shots win!

Most of my classes haven't gotten to play the basketball game because of time.

Feel free to adapt and adopt as you see fit. Hope this helps!

Here is my powerpoint for lesson one of unit 3.

Pretty self explanatory. There's no worksheet, this is a speaking and listening lesson. They will use their books (page 46 & 47).

Used some material from this thread as a starting point, a big thank you to the teachers who contributed.

Hope it helps :)

Edit: Forgot lesson plan...

Game for Unit 3 Listen and Talk 1

Pass the bomb game with countdown effects and explosion.

I have kids use the dialogue from the book, but change the Let's _______________ to go aong with the picture.

Student 1 has the bomb when it blows up.  He is A, I am B.  Student 1 doesn't sit down.

Student 2 has the bomb when it blows up.  He (2) is A, and Student 1 is B.  Student 1 sits down, while student 2 remains standing.

Rinse and repeat.

Other slides have a Question and Answer already on it, to be read as is.

Some of hte time between bombs is quite long (in excess of 1 minute).  Change it as you see fit.

If you have a lower-level class, this may help. I find that I really have to break things down a lot for my group and have super clear visuals and vocabulary or I lose them completely.

This lesson reviews:
-Do you have any plans...?
-Let's...
and introduces
-Are you busy...?
-Why don't we...?

It ends with a sentence scramble game which you could play in several different ways, depending on your class. I'll have mine get into teams and run to the board to write the sentence.

Thanks, waygook user davis.brennanj, as I think I got a few ideas/images from you. If it was someone else, my apologies.

Found myself doing a third week on this. Got a lesson covering similar vocab so edited it a bit to include the vocab from the book. It pretty much covers the different types of weather and and then practices suggesting doing something with it.

After going through the vocab, most the kids will know, I do an activity from the book Pg. 48 B. then do the two worksheets in pairs. The first is where they write a dialogue after the one I have put up on the ppt as an example. Then I do the weather forecast activity. the youtube clip is embedded so you need internet access. I also have a hyperlink in the heading to link if it doesn't work. the kids just fill in the country, the weather and then suggest something to do. I usually play the clip twice.

I hope this helps!

I use pages 48 and 49 then elicit "problems" and "solutions" (words my students associate with, you might want to change it) and put them on the board.

Drill the first conversation, then I pair my students up and ask them to practice while keeping their list on the board.
We move to the dice game in the end and give candy to the students who can perform without the board.

hope it helps!

My class is so low functioning that all of these lessons are too difficult.

We've divided the grade 1 class up into 3 groups - high, middle, and low.  The High and Middle classes were fine with variants of these lessons, but the low class won't stand a chance.  They hate English first of all.  So when I finally find a simple, entertaining way to teach this, with games to keep their attention, they finally just dig their heels in because English is dumb anyway.

It's so frustrating.  I think it's time to put the book up and play other games.

Here's my lesson for Listen and Speak 1. It's modified slightly to be based around outdoor activities. I got the idea for the Minesweeper game from another user, so thank you for that. Lesson plan and worksheet is also attached.

Here are some materials for Listen and Speak 2 - medical problems. It should all be pretty straightforward. There's worksheet and also the board game I made attached. I didn't actually get time to play the board game, so I used it in the next lesson instead. Enjoy.

Thanks for posting this!

This gave me the idea to create the following take on "pass the bomb" (as a reading game, for listen and speak 1):

Pass a ball around the classroom, and have the students make the dialogues that are on the screen, then pass the ball to the next people  (my students are sitting in pairs, so each pair of students will work together in this game). Click the picture on the powerpoint slide to bring up the next dialogue for the next pair of students. When the bomb goes off, those students are eliminated! and play continues without them.

Unfortunately, this thing was kind of a pain to create and edit, so it fails as a potential template. But I hope my hard work is helpful for someone else who is teaching this unit, at least!

Here's a very short supplemental Sleeping Elephants for this chapter.  I will perhaps add to it, but it's difficult because all my students are exceptionally low level and I have very small classes.  6 kids in this class (*at this school), so I have the slides set up for two groups of three.

If you don't download the lullaby mp3 and keep it in the same folder as the ppt when you do the ppt, you won't get to hear the song and the elephant trumpets, etc.
