Lesson 1: A New Start

Modified bomb game for chapter's language.  You'll have to edit some of the slides.  I write the basic dialogue on the board.  One side is self introduction and the other side is introducing a friend.  Gradually blank out words...

Hey all.  So here is what I have.  I find games with no pictures boring, so I can only imagine the kids do too (no offence howardkeith ).

Credit goes out to the the original PP creators from the JL Haas Lesson 1 thread.  All has been modified to fit this new book.

p.s.  This was meant for 1 day's lesson but with my intro and korean time management, I don't even get to the game portion :p  And I milk the flags activity as a easy confidence builder.

I was just handed this book as well. My country school has a different first grade book. But the first lesson is basically the same. Instead of re-doing the whole lesson plan/lessons I'm just using the same thing for both.

It has introductions/how are you included in both. I'll also attach my lesson plans. Hope this helps everyone for their first class!

I've gotta teach from the textbook...here's my take on the first few pages...will be adding a part b later.

For the study skill section on page 13 I basically recorded myself speaking really fast... students respond with text suggestions.

Here is my lesson for chapter 1: a new start. I used it as a chance to get to know the kids a little since they are my new students. I taught this lesson over two weeks. First week I presented the language and let them start the worksheet. The following week, they finished coloring and cutting out the flower (from the worksheet) and each student presented themselves to the class. The lesson worked pretty well for me, but the kids will take a long time to color the flower if you don't rush them. Flowers also double as classroom decorations.

I spread this lesson out over 3 weeks

Part A – we spent 15mins or so going over some class rules etc, before starting the lesson. Then work through the textbook listening parts with the help of the PPT. Finally, I had students get into pairs and come up with a dialogue of their own. If there was time remaining, we did some of the flag guesses “Where Are you From? In the PPT

Part B – We finished the listening parts of the book and went through the PPT. We ended off with an emotions Pictionary game. Divide the class into 2 teams (I usually do boys vs girls), and have one student from each team come to the front and draw the emotion. First team to say the correct answer (‘Are you ____?’) wins 1 point

Part C – review day. Students immediately got into pairs and interviewed each other on the ‘This Is My Friend’ worksheet. Then we did the Mario bomb game on the glorious waygook template (adapted from howardkeith82's game above)

Hi there,
This is the lesson I put together for making nicknames. I start off by handing out the small name strips. Then the students must mingle and introduce themslves by saying "let me introduce myself, I'm ..." until they have found their partner ie. Bat + Man = Batman. After that I run through the ppt. explaining what a nickname is (sorry for all my family photos, please feel free to replace them with your own). Next we create nicknames for everyone and then I ask them to use their new nickname to make an avatar. I don't like to spend too long on the drawing side of this lesson as I think its more important for them to speak, so I set a timer for 10 minutes.  After that we role play in pairs meeting at a Bus stop and introducing themselves. For my low level class I leave the dialogue slide up for them to refer to but for my higher level class I let them make up their own role play. I give them about 5 minutes to practice and then they present it to their groups. The best pair comes to the front and presents it to the class.  And that's about it.

Just wanted to say that I loved this!!  I think I changed a couple questions, but all of it was really great.  I loved how much speaking it involved.  Great work!

Hello friends!

FOR CLASS 1.1.1
First it's a ppt of classroom rules, and a small bit of information about me. INCLUDES SLIDES FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION. EDIT THOSE TO SUIT YOU. And then we go over classroom vocab. Call and repeat style. Next, I give them a Hangul/Korean chart and we fill it in together. This is so that we can standardise how Korean words will be spelled in English, and also to help with the next activity of creating name tags. I have them glue the charts to the inside cover of their textbooks. I also have them glue the bottom inch of the back page to the back cover of the book, creating a flap. They will store their name tags in there between classes. For the name tags, you will just need 1x A4 for each kid. I also suggest crayons/colouring pencils etc.

FOR CLASS 1.1.2:
I took SimonV's ppts and edited them a little bit to suit my own nefarious ends (I changed the gifs). In general I slowed everything down so my slower kids could follow. We will start with emotion review, then textbook work, etc. It's all there.
