Here is a "guess who" game that I have used for Lesson 3: Join Our Club!! Hope this helps!
I have also done a listening activity where I have the students put a piece of paper on their heads and i describe somethign that I want them to draw. For example: "I like hiking up a mountain." When I get to the top, I like to eat an apple." etc... Goes along with the talk and draw section at the top of p. 41.

Another thing you can do that goes along with p. 45 is have the students write out directions/ a recipe of something they know how to cook and also draw a picture for each step. Go over cooking words such as: Beat, Add, Mix, stir, fry, etc.

Here's a quick Human Bingo sheet that I made for my class... I fit two sheets on one page, to save paper.

I hope this is helpful to some.

My lesson will go as follows:

1. Brainstorm with students: What do you like?
2. Human Bingo worksheet
3. Invent a club (in groups of 4 or 5).. one a blank piece of paper, the students will draw their club and write 5 sentences outlining what they do in the club.
4. Present if time permits.

Okay, so here is my introduction, just got it finished. It is made in MS2007 so if you have 97-2003 check the fonts. This power point covers the key sentences, gives different activities and clubs students can participate in at our school, as well as some last minute cooking instruction words. Easy to go through quickly. Enjoy~

would just like to say huge thanks to everyone. i was struggling for idea with this topic but you have saved me. Here is my PPT. I have adapted others and will be including the guess who game activity. Its fantastic thanks.

Does anyone else have to teach the talk and draw a snowman exercise? I am going to have the students place their notebooks on their heads and draw the instructions I tell them. Draw one large circle, above it draw a smaller one, and so on... the end results should be interesting.

I was struggling for this lesson. So I did a quick PPT about things I like using pictures I took at the weekend on my trip to Seoul. I then asked them "What do you like? Do you like to play football?". I wrote to play on one side of the board and then playing on the otherside. We brainstormed all the different sports they like and other activities too. I then covered the structure "Do you like? Yes, I do/No, I don't".I got the students to take turns asking me using the activities written on the board and then they did a practice activity. I took an activity from the activities book"my partner likes" which is attached. For the higher levels I took an action verbs game where teams got one point for guessing the picture before all the squares disappeared and then 1 point for using the verb in a sentence correctly. The first round everyone got a turn and then after that the team to put their hand up first would get the points.

For the lower grade students, the power point had more images and they got to do the same work sheet. For the production phase of the lesson I made a getem game, using rock paper scissors, which the kids love(kaibaibo). I got the idea off MESenglish. It took time cutting out all the cards and laminating them but the kids loved it. I made them play it this way. Each student got 3 or 4 cards which they laid out in front of them facing down. They did rock paper scissors, the winner got to pick any card but to keep it the winner had to say the activity on the card and use it in a sentence example"do you like playing baseball?". The kids loved it. Before using it though, I would edit the drawing cartoons picture and the travelling one, the kids had difficulty with those two.

This is my worksheet (and very basic ppt) for this lesson. The second activity is Constantinople where students write a word or words vertically and then think of words that start with those letters. I have them race and give candy to the first ones done.

I had a worksheet I typed up but I cannot seem to find it, sorry!
I had the students watch the videos and listen and fill in the blanks on the worksheets. I played the video a few times, since the speaking in the videos is rather fast.
With the ppt I went over ingredients and some simple vocab from the videos/recipes.

Hey,
For the first class I'm showing a ppt on "do you like...." as well as "does he like/does she like..."
The students really seem to like animated gifs and it gets them into the topic. Afterwards, I'll be using the people bingo from this thread. Thanks!

I'm starting this lesson by having the students create a club which they will try to convince the class to join. We started by going over some examples of clubs we can join, and what activities we would do in each club. Then I put them all in groups where they decided on what kind of club they wanted to make. I was getting a lot of groups copying the clubs from the book until I started making sure we put some fan clubs in our examples. Each club made a poster and wrote sentences for each person to read in their presentation.

That part of the activity took most of the first class, so next time they will rehearse and present at the start of class. After presenting we'll put each poster on the board with magnets and have the kids come up and vote for which club they want to join. I'll also try and get some responses about why they chose the club they voted for.

Our vice principal also wanted some of our student's works decorating the English classroom so I think these posters will be a nice addition to put up.

Here's my PPT and worksheets for part of this lesson. I threw together some of the previously posted PPTs along with some of my own ideas.

One of the worksheets is a simple charades game that the kids really enjoy. They work in groups of four and take it in turns to act out one of the things from their card. First person to guess gets a point, most points at the end gets a sticker.

The other is a modified version of aptoaj's guess who which is a bit more suitable for the level I teach.

so, i know "join our club" is more about clubs and interests than instructions and steps, but i came across this neat origami crane project that helps kids in japan, and thought it was relevant enough to be incorporated into this lesson, even if only to let the students get involved in a good cause.

kids make origami cranes and teachers submit them to oshkosh b'gosh. for every crane that is submitted, oshkosh will donate one piece of clothing to japan. there is a video and instructions on the oshkosh website: http://www.oshkoshbgosh.com/Cranes-For-Kids/cranes-for-kids,default,pg.html?id=oshkosh. students can practice ordinal numbers and steps (first, second, then, next) while doing something that benefits others.

i posted this somewhere else, but thought i should re-post it on this specific thread. not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but thought i'd share anyway! deadline for submissions is april 25th.

I was planning on making paper fortune cookies with the kids. Easy and contains instructions plus the chance to write little one liners like "Have a good day!" "Be happy!" etc. The directions don't follow cooking though (obviously you don't beat a paper fortune cookie.) Unfortunately now my coteacher is really far behind so I don't think we'll get to it before midterms!

Hey for this lesson i make the students do a home work exercise. I have the students make their own poster. It helps them with free thinking and writing. it really could work and has in the past.

I found that you can do a lot with this chapter. I went more the route of teaching the kids cooking terms, and having them make a recipe.

I had them watch a youtube video of Mr. Bean making a sandwich, and then they had to fill out a worksheet about how he made it when they watched it the second time. The kids seemed to love it.

I was looking at this section and I thought a great activity, which would also take up time, would be to get the students into groups and get each group to come up with their own club and name. Each group would then have to present their club, its name, club activities, when the club meets and each role in the club. To make it more exciting, tell them it should be like an advert and then have a class vote as to who was the best (the vote could be asking the class, by hands, who would join whose group).

Mr Bean is a fantastic tool in the classroom - its all about body language so the kids, even though there is no dialogue, completely understand what is going on. Plus the added bonus of making your lessons fun and exciting!

Also! I created and then printed directions for making/assembling various types of food (ie, pbj sandwich, pancakes, cookies etc...) and cut them out and put them in envelopes. Going to have them in groups put in the correct order and read aloud.
