Hey Paul,
That actually looks rather nice! Although the issue with larger images loading on average of 80k to 100k times a day is the amount of extra bandwidth it consumes. That was the issue with one of the very first templates (although not the same level of traffic).
I can implement something along those lines, but I need to make upgrades to the service purchased by the site.
Believe it or not, we have nearly 2TB of bandwidth allotted per month, and we always reach near the limit, with a few times actually having gone over it. So an extra 50Kb image (it would likely end up being bigger, but I'm being conservative) times 100,000, times 30 = 150 GB of bandwidth. Crazy stuff!
We can do it though, just not massive images, cause the 150GB will turn into TBs.
I'm going to switch the colours a bit first, and get rid of the funky colours.
After having backed up the template! LOL. j/k. The templates are a mixture of PHP and HTML, and of course CSS style sheets, but the main index of the other one just turned into a heap of trash. I typically have no issues as I SSH into the server, and do my work that way, but SMF has implemented the worst possible solution for editing a template, and I had thought of just doing some quick edits.... Horrible. Just horrible.
