It doesn't stop you from posting.  It just gives you the opportunity to check the thread before posting as someone has place a reply between the time you started yours and finished posting.  You can click a second time and it will just go through.

I kind of like the feature, actually--it's fun to check and see an additional post sometimes...  I'm not sure if it has ever caused my to modify my post of not, but it's kinda interesting, even if it does throw me off a little.

The login show unread posts/show new replies/messages section is clunky and doesn't lead you to the threads easily. Not saying it should follow FB, but having a red icon (meaning messages, posts to earlier threads would be far simpler. You could hover over the tab and then select which thread to view, that would be sweet. I suspect that is a pricey and time-consuming endeavour though...
