Lessons 4-6 Review and Blockbuster game
« Reply #1 on: June 22, 2014, 06:33:34 PM »
Since no one else has posted here yet, here are my materials.  ;D

I attached a simple review PPT I made for lessons 4-6, as well as a Blockbuster review game.

I only included enough review questions for the first game board. The rules are explained on the PPT.

Enjoy!

----

I just taught this lesson and it went extremely well. I had time to play two rounds of Blockbuster, which they loved.

On the review PPT, I asked students to substitute their own answers for the dialogue on slide 12, Mad Libs style, (replace the what, where, and when blanks) and they had some hilarious answers.

----

If you can't see the attachments, they are still awaiting moderator approval and I don't know how long that normally takes. This is actually my first post, so I can't send any PMs back to people who had questions, sorry!

Here is the script for that fun pair dialogue I mentioned before, if you all need something quickly for this week. It incorporates all the key expressions in the Listen & Speak. I call up pairs using their student numbers.

Example:

When: 10am
What: Play soccer
Where: the park

A: Why don’t we WHAT on Saturday, NAME?
B: Okay, NAME! Can you make it at WHEN at WHERE?
A: No problem. See you tomorrow.
B: Great! I’m looking forward to it.

One student ended up inviting the other to a ssireum match at the fish market at midnight and the other cheerfully agreed. The students had a lot of fun with this activity. :D

Okay, I'm sorry... But this blockbuster game is seriously cool.
I have played a similar game - like a connect four and a honeycomb game, but your skills with ppt are amazing!!! How on earth did you do this?? Must have taken you hours!

I kept the review somewhat simple and technology free.  I first reviewed prepositions at the request of my co teacher with a handout and a quick repeat-after-me exercise.

I then had the students all stand then posed questions mostly relating to the text, clarifying when necessary.  Students had to raise their hands to answer and the first to get it right could sit.  I kept on until all the class was seated again.  Only when the remaining students were stumped would I ask seated students to answer, rewarding with a chocolate if it was particularly difficult to come to the answer (I definitely scaled the difficulty so that harder questions were asked closer to the beginning).

In the review I touched on articles, plural/singular (and in one class, non count nouns) briefly, primarily as a much needed reminder.

I had between 15 and 10 minutes remaining and posed a few riddles to the class as a whole, keeping in tune with the puzzles theme of the last unit and giving them a little break. Students raised their hands to answer and got a candy or ABC chocolate if they got it right.

The preposition hand out is on the second page of the attached review doc and is taken from this image on pinterest: http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/e6/87/f9/e687f92349fd80def7cb9925fc559301.jpg
The in-front-of and in-back-of were altered to show up better in black and white. I cut each sheet into three to save on paper.
I took the riddle questions from the brainteaser ppt posted by ammislan on this thread: http://waygook.org/index.php?topic=51736.0.html

I made some changes to Thimblekiss's review PPT - I am only going as far as lesson 5, so mine is lesson 3,4 & 5.  Hope someone else can benefit from it.  Then I made a cryptogram using the study points from those lessons.
