This just deals with Instructions.
I showed them the Power point.
Then I showed them the YouTube videos and I had them all make paper plans repeating the steps.  We also folded the shirts and explained to each other how to do it.

This is a very basic lesson.

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd post my lesson on here as it's been really well received.

I spend two lessons on each chapter in the book. The first lesson I introduce the theme (I teach all girls middle school so the ppt will be quite fluffy and is filled with photographs to keep my kids engaged so edit as necessary) and then in our second lesson we are going to be making Grass Heads (I'm getting each student to bring a stocking, yogurt cup and decorations and I'm going to supply the grass seeds and we are all going outside to dig up soil).

The kids are super excited and I've never seen them so amped up for an English lesson :)
Hope it helps you!

Lesson 3- Part 1

Review Key Expressions
A book work practice (explain A#2 is were dialogue and give them a better answer

B: Practice with the WS from Tori-Bird

I let my kids run wild with the puzzle so I didn't get a chance to review the WS before class ended. But I also have a long warmup in the beginning of class so that takes up time.

Hey, anybody else have problems with the use of 'put'?

Page 49- C: Listen and Act- 'put the seeds'
Page 50-Speak B-2 for making ramyeon the answer is:
  First, boil some water.
Then, put the ramyeon and dry soup mix.
Finally, put an egg on them and boil for 5 minutes.

Exchange with add and I have no problem.

Great idea! Where did you get the grass seeds from?

Ok, so after 5 classes I give my kids a Movie Rewards class.

This time I showed them 2 episodes of Adventure time (Wanted to show  3, no time).

The WS ties into Lesson 2 "What's the matter" and Lesson 3  sequencing events.

I put this as notes in the ppt, but just an FYI: the website link isn't direct to the episode.

WEBSITE LINK: http://blog.naver.com/ryu_wol__?Redirect=Log&logNo=177354374&jumpingVid=6E3DAED2FD7966227CB6BB16F34AC9175D92

For "From Bad to Worse" go to Season 3, Page 7
"City of Thieves" go to Season 1, Page 7
"Ricardio" go to Season 1, Page 10

Most classes I did a warm-up then went over the questions before showing the video. I had the kids write the sentences in Korean underneath (esp the low level kids who were confused).

I barely got through both episodes and will have to finish the questions for the 2nd episode next class.

Every kid LOVES the Zombie Episode "From Bad to Worse" ! 2nd episode, I think they were more like "EH" about....  From last year (another school) the kids seemed to be ok with the Ricardio episode...

Hey All

I have question, i hope you can help. On page 57 where it explains how to grow vegetables in a bag, in step 3 should there be an apostrophe after the X (X's)? In my textbook there is no apostrophe, it just Xs, but in the students textbooks there is an apostrophe!
The way i understand it there shouldn't be one, as an apostrophe is used in marking of possessive, in this case there is no possessive.

I did find this in Wikipedia

"The marking by some as plural of written items that are not words established in English orthography (as in P's and Q's). (This is considered incorrect by others; see Use in forming certain plurals. The use of the apostrophe to form plurals of proper words, as in apple’s, banana’s, etc., is universally considered incorrect.)"

but it has only made me more confused.

Any help clearing up this matter for me would be great!!
:)

Here's my combination lesson for Speak A and B. Thank you again to the previous posters for their work, it heavily influenced what I added to my lesson. I also included a hidden picture game as my teacher wanted more practice for the "I'm good at_____" expression.

Thank you woodsworth English.

The PC Bang is NOT funny, kids.

Week 1
Speak A
Circle Game - Explained in powerpoint. make a circle with the chairs. make 2 kids go into the middle of the circle of chairs and take their chairs out of the circle. this equates to number of students minus 2 chairs. key words can be find in the powerpoint and correspond to the circle game doc. give each kid a tab with 2 key words. depending on your class size, might have to change design of game. in mine, about 26 kids means that about 8-9 have the same words. make the 2 in the middle run through the key expression dialogue, they can pick to fill the expression with a key word. saying a word, the kids with the word must change chairs. and the 2 in the middle get to a chair as fast as they can too. should leave 2 students in the middle to start the process again. This game is a major hit and kids always love it.

Week 2
Speak B
Adventure Time lesson (posted above) except. I only do the one episode 'from bad to worse' and have the WS for sequencing of events which is related to my 'week 2's key expression.

http://Spam.jcink.net/

Week 1: Start with Listening Test (read 4 words on the slide, the student write down what they hear), do pg 48 - Get Ready. Go through ordinal numbers & instruction words, elicit PBJ instructions, do the worksheet from Tori_Bird, finish pg 48.

Week 2: Start with pg 49 Focus In - go thru ppt examples of Who vs Which. Finish pg 49.
Introduce the Key Expression for the day: "Do you know how to..." and do a couple examples together. Get to the "Make it Rain" example, teaching the vocab "Dope" and "Swag". CHANGE THE PIC OF ME FOR ONE OF YOU. Have a couple students come up to attempt to make it rain. I attached Bermuda Triangle by Zico for the music. Finish up with group pictionary. Divide them into teams, supply them with verb cards and mini whiteboards.

Week 3: Open with a warmer game, or this class will be a little short. I used either Broken Telephone or Heads Up 7 Up (target sentence: I think it was _____ WHO touched my thumb). Then I prompted them through a final set of instructions, one for my boys class, one for my girls glass. Then the activity was writing instructions for the Macarena. I would divide them into groups of 5 -> 4 people watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzV63IRR8BQ (03:17 to end) and then together as a group they had to write the 14 steps for dancing the macarena. The 1 person who did not watch the video had 1 chance to come up to me and read my instructions for guidance. I rewarded groups who finished their instructions and danced it for the class. If you don't want to do the macarena, I have also included in the ppt a chair/circle game thing that is explained in the ppt.

Hey guys!  So I got this RamCooking powerpoint from a waygook friend years ago!  I thought I would post it here since it goes well with the SecondGWorksheet that another waygook member posted.  Enjoy!

Hey there!  So this chapter has Bette Midler's song "The Rose."  I took the opportunity to make a powerpoint for the song.  The words in white have a fly-in animation.  Try to get your students to guess the word based on the picture.  I try to get the students to guess the word with the help of a hangman game, too.  I might also do a fill in the blank activity with the students for this song.  If anyone has any other ideas for song activities for this song let me know!

Okay I just added more to my own powerpoint. lol.  I added the weblink to the song (it is a lyric video with great images pertaining to the lyrics of the song!) and added a white board fill in the blank game.  The students who fills in the blank first gets a piece of candy.
