2014 Grade 4 YBM 1 - 1. We Have a New Friend
« on: March 05, 2014, 11:53:46 AM »
I saw a lot of people have this new book. I've been exploring the CDROM and found PPTs on it. If you have the CDROM you can access the PPTs by clicking the book and wand next to "Lesson 1" in the top left corner. If you can't then you can download the PPT I put together using the files from the CDROM.

Hope this helps guys!

**Added a review PPT for period 2 or 3. Scrambled words edited from koekemakranka's PPT, thanks!

Great! Thanks so much. I don't have the CD Rom just yet, would you be able to put up the PPT for unit 2? It'd be a big help, thanks!  :azn:

I'm in the process of making an index.
I will also try to post the PPTs from the CDROM on each lesson. I should finish it today.

Completed. The index is done and every PPT from the CDROM is attached to the appropriate lesson. All that's left to do is add material. If you create something for any of the lessons in this book please add it!

New Vocab PPT -

Didn't really like the premade PPT for vocab - three English words mean 좋은 - pictures are better explanations in my opinion :)

We are covering the chapter in 5 classes.  For the first class, I have to come up with a listening game that includes the vocabulary words.  (My vocab words are: bad, everyone, fine, meet, Mr., Ms., new, nice, outside, teach, today, walk)  So, I am doing a simple "snatch the card" game.  Each team will have 18 cards.  I will say a vocab word and the students have to grab a card with the corresponding word.  The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
The words I'm using:
meet, Mr., walk, not bad, everyone, nice, Nice to meet you., How are you?, teach, outside, bad, not good, Nice to meet you, too., today, fine, Ms., great, new

This was what we did for the first class.
I can't take full credit as the worksheet exercise was my CTs idea.
We started with a re-introduction of me and my CT (she is new for this year group).
The Worksheet we had them fill in alone first then they had to interview each other and find others that like the same thing. The object was to find 3 friends with the same likes.
They enjoyed this a lot.

Thanks for the stuff you posted! I want to try and contribute. Here are a couple songs that relate to the lesson.

A good way to get them engaged is a lyric sheet with words erased. Have them listen a couple times and fill in the blanks, and then hopefully they will sing. I'll attach a lyrics sheet for the second youtube song I posted. Thanks again for your posts.

For the speaking activity we gave the kids Harry Potter character cards and a 'mood'. They made the conversation in their groups using the key expressions then volunteers came up and performed their short role-play.

My kids are at a relatively high level so this went down quite well with only a few of them struggling with the character names. If they do struggle get them to write out the name in Hangul, copying your pronunciation. I've also added a character list. I didn't know who a lot of them were so I didn't use all of them. Maybe you'll know more than me!

(To clarify I printed the pictures, glued them on a piece of paper, wrote on their names and laminated each character card, it took about an hour or so).

So I was trying to find a video of people greeting each other in different cultural contexts, but I couldn't find any sort of video that would show multiple greetings so I threw this together last night. It's several YouTube videos put together and I labeled the countries. I can't afford another copyright strike on my YouTube account so I'm going to make it private in a few days. If anyone wants the video after that, just let me know.

And for the record, yes, I know Justin Bieber is Canadian. But the others guys in the video are from the U.S., so I went with - what is in my mind at least - the more vague label of just "America". Also, I was trying to label countries and Arabic greetings span many different countries so I just did my own thing there. Not trying to make a Pan-Arabism political statement there or anything. Despite it not being PC, I hope this video is useful. ^^

Lesson 1 Blackout Game ppt and game cards
« Reply #17 on: March 14, 2014, 05:11:12 PM »
This is a listening/reading game.  You need to have your Korean Co-teacher translate the instructions.  My KT gave me this game and we used it in 6th grade with success.  The ppt explains how to play and I have attached the game cards as well.  Print and cut the cards, then put into sets.

Modification:  You can also use just 9 game cards and play BINGO. Teacher says the phrase and Ss turn over the card.  3 in a row wins.  This is a good idea if your KT is unavailable to translate Blackout instructions.

My co-teacher asked me to make a PPT about how to greet people and different kinds of greetings. This is by no means comprehensive, so feel free to edit as you need.
