1. Motivation: Gogo: How many are there?

2. Intro PPT with Listen and Say dialogue

I modified a game I found elsewhere and made it easier for this lesson, so props to the original maker.

Simple game. The pictures flash quickly, and your students have to tell you how many animals there are.

I made this game for my students to practice.

The screen shows 4 words with a different first letter, and a picture.  The students all have a mini-white board or piece of paper.  The teacher will say the word and the students listen and select the word from the screen and write it down.

Since my school is big on Learner Centered Activities and students working together, we have the students hold up their boards and check the answer.  If some students have a different answer, we give the students some time to help each other until all the students have the same answer.

After you click to reveal the answer, click one more time and the three boxes will appear.  For my students, I give them 3 points if they got it on the first try (3rd box), 2 points for 2nd try (2nd box) and 1 point if it takes them 3 tries to get it (first box).  It will take you to the points screen.  Then on the points screen, click the box at the bottom to go to the next slide.

I hope you guys can use this to have a fun phonics class with ur students.  It covers all of the letters learned in the book up through Lesson 6.

Here is a period 2 introduction PPT and a Minecraft game.

*Beware that the game has some slides where the student rolls a die to win points. If you don't have a die, you could just delete the text and images from these slides and copy/paste something from another slide.*

Here's a connect 4 game I used for a different text in the same topic.

The final slide is to be printed out if you want to play in pairs using paper. The second slide is interactive if you want to play on the computer screen.

A four corners game with instructions in the begining. I found it in another thread and changed the pictures and phrases to match the book so thanks to the original creator!

Since this thread is so thin, I'm going to add what I used. I take NO CREDIT for most of the stuff in here. I just pieced together what I found. I only came up with the "Nunchi Numbers" slides.

Each group (3 groups of 8 ) took turns counting the pictures. I gave the groups 2 chances per picture depending on whether any other group had a point on that picture yet or not. The nunchi game is definitely harder for the third graders, so I had to give them a few more chances per sentence.

This is meant to pre-teach them numbers. We had a test today, so I only prepped them for this chapter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update:

Here I am again. This time it's a quick warm-up "game" and find Jaesuk. The original templates for these games were taken from other users. Credit goes to them. I changed the target language and pictures to match this chapter.

For the warm-up game, I plan on having them do a "big" gesture and "small" gesture + yell out their guess all at once. I'll probably do it elimination style or give em points. Whichever works.

The main game is a find the thing behind the pictures. They play in groups. Say a sentence. If they find Jaesuk, 1 point. Simple. They practice counting animals and asking the question.
