Wow it is dead in here, ㅋㅋㅋ.

Anyway here's a PowerPoint I made. I introduce the new vocabulary including the target sentences 'This is my' and 'Nice to meet you'. There is a Let's Read section. They get a mildly harder by having the students fill in the blanks, handle this section how ever you choose. Next is a guessing game section, unscramble words and sentences and guess who( distorted pics of family members). Was going to do more but had no time, may come back and edit.

Also included the family member picture cards for this lesson in two formats, white background and transparent.

Also, the fonts I used from dafont.com

My "family": A very simple PPT for a reading/writing/listening game. You will need to print off the handouts (four to a page) for this activity. Each student will receive a table. There are 6 family members and a space for a name next to each one. In the PPT, there are slides that say "This is my [family member], [name]." They're a mixture of Korean celebrities and well-known characters. For example, "my grandfather" is Santa Claus. Really insist on the fact that this is your family because the kids will go crazy. Bonus points if you pose like the person in the picture and say you look similar.

You may need to change the grandmother (Gru's mother from Superbad/Despicable Me). The students have trouble pronouncing her name.

Could work for periods 1 or 3.

Revised 4 Corners Game containing family vocabulary and the expression, "nice to meet you".  I changed the pictures to words to focus more on reading.

Thanks MelanieMB!

Here's Simpsons Family PPT I made and a Simpsons Family Flick Board Game to go with it. (I got the flick board game from another unit on this site.)

Flick Board: Each block has a - / + number, those are the points. Have the students each
                   start with 30 points.
When the student lands on a block, he/she has to say: This is my _______. to
                   get an extra 2 points.

Plus I added a Score Card that can be edited.

Here is a directions ppt/characters for the activity on page 29 in the book. I printed the characters page at the end and cut it down the middle. Each student gets one to pick their own family.

Also, if you have the teachers resources book (huge hard cover book) then you can use this really simple activity similar to the slap speed game used with cards. You will need to copy the worksheet page.

I got the idea for this game from one of the older book threads.    I redid the worksheet and made an explanatory ppt.  I used it during period 3 to practice reading (but left the ppt with images on the screen for students who needed the help).

Students (I had mine in pairs, but groups could work, too.) roll a die, say the target sentence ("This is my ___."), and then put a marker on the relevant space.  If the spot is already occupied, they remove the marker.  First student to get all 6 spots marked says, "This is my family," and wins.

It went over really well with the kids.  For their markers, I just used a hole punch on construction paper.  It was a little tedious passing them out, but nothing too bad.

Put this together for Show Time (Mod probably needs to move it, thanks!)

It's a fill-in-the-blank dialogue with word hints at the bottom. 2 students work together to fill it in. I printed out the photos and taped wooden chopsticks on the back to use as puppets to perform in front of the class. For my low level kids it took about 20-25 minutes including explanation time, but they enjoyed it.

First file is my explaining presentation, second is to print.

Hi All. I've modified the corners game used before, as the corners, pictures and sentences didn't originally match up.

I've also made it 6 corners so you can use all of the picture cards from the book to help students.

"Difference is, I walked out a winner. That's my key to success."
