cpark0114 - Thanks for the mystery box game. - always a big hit.

Here's is a very simple "Can you ___? survey. Ss walk around the room asking friends Can you ____? and record their name.
(looks similar to Act and Play pg 97 but in English).

Made some flashcards using Power Point.

I'm planning on using them for musical chairs.

Grade 3 L9: I Can Dive - Intro, What's Missing, and Snakes & Ladders
« Reply #8 on: September 02, 2014, 03:06:54 PM »
Hello all! 2 things:

I've taken the Kirby Vocab PPT posted earlier (thank you!) and added a What's Missing Game to the end.  I'm using this to warm up for 2nd period of this lesson.

I've also attached a Snakes and Ladders game that I adapted from someone on Waygook (thank you, too!).  One is a Word doc - which is the one I'm printing.  The other is a PPT which can be used for editing or showing to the kids on the big screen!

Enjoy!  :azn:

Grade 3 L9: I Can Dive - 4 Corners Telephathy
« Reply #9 on: September 02, 2014, 03:14:23 PM »
Oh, I forgot!

Here's a 4 corners telepathy game I swiped and adapted from my fellow Waygook posters! I used this for the 1st period but it could be used anytime.

The instructions are on the PPT.  But basically the kids get up and each student picks a corner to stand in.  If their corner is chosen, they lose and have to sit down.  The kids LOVE it! And in between each round they practice reading, making sentences, or repeating with the words in the corner they chose.

Enjoy!

Lesson plan for 3.9.1

Lesson includes:
new vocabulary and practice, textbook video, textbook sticker activity, textbook touch the card game

Notes:
minimal prepwork: print out the game posters
The textbook says that points go towards the person who touches the card first but I just made it so that whoever touches the card and says the expression gets a point.

Lesson plan for 3.9.2

Lesson includes:
review, textbook video, textbook activities, textbook coin game

Notes:
minimal prepwork: have enough coins for one per group of four, and write out the answers to the video quiz so you know the answer

Lesson plan for 3.9.3

Lesson includes:
review, textbook writing activities, textbook Dd pronunciation practice, textbook audition game

Notes:
no prepwork
I changed the audition game from keeping score to just marking what each group did.

Lesson plan for 3.9.4

Lesson includes:
textbook video and quiz, textbook check up, textbook end of chapter self evaluation, textbook video on p100, partner rock-scissors-paper race

Notes:
minimal prepwork: print out the rock-scissors-paper game, and set up an online stopwatch to count up before the class starts

Hi!

Here's a song and video I made for teaching can/can't. My students have had tons of fun with it and I like kicking off class with a song about the day's lesson.

I've also used the song during camp and afterschool classes. I split the students into three groups -- each group takes one verse and is responsible for creating a dance to go along with it.

I made a video during summer camp; the students (they're 1st and 3rd graders) didn't have enough time to practice but I think it still turned out okay. It was a bit tough for the 1st graders, too.

The attachments: slide show so you can teach it at a slower pace and a printable version of the lyrics.

PS big fan of the "Can an Elephant Jump" song posted above, too -- my students LOVE it!!!

This is my first offering to Waygook so I hope someone can find it useful. I'm teaching L9.1 and as an introduction I found this video from Jimmy Kimmel that I thought my kids might find funny. Start about 1:30, I doubt i'll do all of them but would be good to get to the last one! Hope you enjoy.

This works well as a listening activity.
Print out the reading pack on strong paper so that it lasts longer and can be used in other classes. Read out a question/sentence and get the students to piece it together using the reading pack.

I Can SONG
« Reply #17 on: September 21, 2014, 08:04:56 AM »
Here's a song that really rocks! Not like your average ESL tune! It teaches students to rhyme with his/her English names. This song reinforces my students' English names. All students in my classes have English names.

Three educational points:

 (1) students learn their English name.
 (2) students learn to rhyme.(some English names are hard to rhyme)
 (3) Students learn the phrase I can _______.

CLOZE - fill in the blanks worksheet. Students may have to listen a couple of times as the song has a fast tempo.

YOW write your own words worksheet. It can be a lot of fun if you sing it by taking turns.
Have the students sing the chorus part "I can  I can I can I can" and solo the rest. Each student takes a turn by sing a solo part. There are eight solo parts so you can get the whole class in 3-4 times. You will need to play the song with no lead vocals.

Let my students listen to this song once, and let them dance along to the action, some of them enjoyed it.

Made a simple charades game for the first period, self explanatory.
