I've completely lost my voice, so I decided to use today for an Adventure Time activity that reviews concepts from Lesson 2, since I can't speak enough to go over new material in Lesson 3. This lesson teaches a new word: "unicorn."

The best part– no need for me to attempt to talk!

The episode is here,(My Two Favorite People) I showed it with Korean subtitles:

The worksheet I made is attached.

To start, I recommend showing pictures of each of the characters with simple sentences:

Jake is a dog, Finn is a boy, Lady Rainicorn is a unicorn, etc.

My voice was shot, so I had a high-level student read the sentences aloud since most of my 3rd-graders are still learning their alphabet. I then helped them form simple sentences on the worksheet by writing out key phrases on the board.

Bonus/time-filler: Print out a few pictures of the characters and objects that your students know (ball, jump rope, etc.) and hold them up so students can form sentences like, "What's this/that?" "It's/That's a _______."

Another matching game, but I made this using the book's pictures and characters... makes explaining to 3rd graders how to play the matching game a bit easier... lol.

My kids love these RPS games. Good vocabulary review.

If you don't know how to play,
  1. Two person game. One starts at A, the other B
  2. Take turns saying the vocabulary..It's a ____
  3. Move along the path closer to the other player, finger or game piece (paper cut out)
  4. When they meet, RPS, winner stays put, the loser back to start.

I don't know why, but they love these games.
Switch up partners after two wins.

nice game but quite literally not ONE of the pictures in your game is the vocabulary for this chapter. it's not even the vocabulary for Chapter 1 so i don't see how it can be a vocab review either.

I put my money where my mouth is and edited the RPS game I slated above to contain the vocab for this chapter

Learnt the new expressions using pointing near to me for "what's this?" and far for "what's that?" - I also made sure they were saying "that" and not "thas" by using gestures to show "that" has a strong finish. Used realia to elicit the answers: "It's a ball/doll/jump rope" etc. Mine needed some practise with differentiating b-b-ball and d-d-doll too.
Anyway,

Period 1 - Listening
VIDEO SLIDES to get the students to say the dialogue they heard
SNATCH GAME We played the snatch game as posted above (thanks!): 2 sets of cards on the table, 4 people. The ppt just includes a slide with monkeys on it to show I had them with their hands on their heads like the monkeys at the beginning of each round. Then they had to look at me while I gestured near or far to elicit "what's this/that?" then they look back at the table, I give the answer and they slam their hand down on the right picture. Do RPS if 2/3 people slam the same card.

Period 2 - Speaking
VIDEO SLIDES again

Period 3 - EFGH
LETTER-SOUND Showed a korean example to demonstrate letter name and sound: eg ㄱ ㅏ ㅇ 강
As each letter was shown I'd ask "what's this?" so they said the letter's name, then gestured and said "sound" to get "E - eh, F - fuh etc. When coming across the letter at any point, eg when colouring the chicken thing, students had to say E - eh - E - eh - E - eh while they did the activity.
WRITING Also for the writing, I got students to practise writing the letter with a finger on their hand at the same time as I did it on the board. Also while doing this, I said (and they repeated) the letter name for each stroke, including intonation changes for curly bits. I would point out writing on the dotted line more strongly as some of them filled all the lines.

Period 4 - Review
EFGH SPINNER GAME Because we ran out of time for the game in period 3 we did the spinner game then: students needed to get all 4 big and all 4 small letters to win. Spinner game taken from earlier user but I made a new board. Spinner at the end of EFGH ppt.
RPS GAME Also played a RPS game that I made (attached) that they really liked. Again idea from above (thanks!) 4 people: 2 teams. Each team starts at each home. Each turn, RPS and move up a square and say the dialogue. If two teams land on the same square, say the dialogue, then RPS and the loser has to return back to their own home. The winning team is the team to make it to the other team's home first.

Just a simple spongebob game, the vocab's not too difficult

not sure why you uploaded this as 90% of the vocabulary doesn't even come from the first 2 chapters of this textbook.

anyway, i fixed it so that it now DOES actually represent the textbook.

I modified a game posted by another user, and I made a short instructions PPT for the game.
this game is always a crowd pleaser :)

Also the GIF that I put on the first slide of the instructions PPT made me cry from laughing the first time I saw it. Then I watched it on repeat. Enjoy.
