2014 Grade 4 Daekyo 1 - 3. It's Time for Lunch
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:06:02 AM »
Some materials I've either borrowed and tweaked a lot or created myself.

For the vocab sheet there is a role play attached that actually goes to the old Hyundai 4th grade text book (by Judy Yin), I am no longer doing 4th grade role play so there won't be any I write for this book for this grade, sorry! But at least this one from Hyundai is related and has the necessary Korean in it.  ;D

Musical chairs-you need to have a classroom where you can push the desks against the wall and put your chairs in a circle. I play the original way with one final winner earning the last seat but you can just play it with only one chair missing and keep going until the end of the powerpoint.

2 Homework sheets I created for any period depending on your students' level.

Here's an updated version of my previous PPT. I borrowed a memory game and adapted it from another PPT.

Line Bingo Strips. (A.K.A. Rip Bingo).
Randomly give one stirp to each student. One student calls out a square ie, "It's 12:30. It's time for lunch." If any other student has that square on either end of their strip they can rip it off. This continues until a student(s) have one square left and call out 'Bingo'.

I took Bella85's "It's time for lunch" intro ppt and added some extra slides to practice the time with ten minute intervals added onto the clock. The second hand appears in the new slides with no text at first, to give students a chance to guess the time on their own. When ready, click once more and the written and numerical time will show up.
Thank you Bella85 for the original :)

This song from Dream English Kids has pretty bang-on target sentences for this lesson.

I took a Doraemon Bomb Game I found on this site (thanks to Kyle Ludeke who originally made the game), and I just adapted it for this lesson.

Here's a game to practice writing. You could have students each with an individual whiteboard, have them work in partners, or in larger teams. At the beginning they will all start with 20 points. They can bet between one and five points and write one sentence of the two indicated on the slide. I will have the "It's time for..." example sentences written on my whiteboard for reference. If they wrote the same sentence as selected on the following slide then they add their bet to their score. If they picked the wrong sentence to write then they must subtract their bet from their score.

Introduction PPT: Teaches "What time is it?", "It's ______ [o'clock]," 20, 30, 40, 50, and the new vocabulary. On slide 5, I took the time to show them how two, three, four, and five become twenty, thirty, forty, and fifty in terms of spelling.

REUPLOADED 2024-4-1: errors fixed
Hammer Game: Uses my own original template. There is a large grid of boxes that have different times on them. Call out a number to choose a student. The student chooses a clock by saying, “It’s __:__.” Underneath the clock is either a dancing kakao icon, a sad face, a happy bunny, or nothing. If there’s a dancing icon, the student can hit their partner in the palm with a toy hammer. If there’s a sad face, they get hit by their partner. If there's a bunny, they can hit the teacher.

The next set of grids have the "It's time for..." pictures on them. Play the same way but change the phrases. You can have the students say the time and the vocabulary, or just ignore the time in the corner.

The second slide was used to demonstrate that underneath the boxes are pictures. I didn't use it as part of the game.

It's (past) time for a materials dump.

The "cups shuffle" and "cups cut-out" PPTs are for a game I used for my open class, where I taped images of the target vocabulary to some plastic cups I bought at daiso, then had students make conversations after passing the cups using a simplified version of this action: .

Someone made the original ppt for this game but I altered it to fit the lesson material (thanks!). The first slide is to talk about time with the students and then the following slides are a game to help learn time.

Pass the ball game using the time slides from another user and the pass the ball game from another user that posted one in a different grade. I just took the music slides from that. Mostly because the songs aren't that other song that drives me nuts after listening to it all week. And the kids love the songs.

Cannot take credit for the game template but massive thanks to the creator of it. Here is an Angry Birds Space game with a bunch of fun animated gif's that I found and copied. My kids had a lot of fun playing...hope it can help someone...

Just for other's future use: These printouts worked swimmingly for a review period. See how much time your little ones spend at their hagwons.  Make an example with your own schedule, too.

Minecraft (v2) bomb review game attached. Lunchtime might need changing to suit your school as it's specific to mine (12.30)
