I think the 'beckoning sign' is a good one on your slide. I am always confused by the Korean beckoning call when they face their hand down as if they are shooing you away when they are in fact telling you to come closer.

Here's my culture/gesture lesson plan
- It was for Gr3 Middle School - for Lesson 4: Your Most Embarrassing Moment. 
(The book is Lime Green and it's by Bi-Sang...As far as I know, no one uses it...or at least I can't find lessons on this site for it...so I hope this helps anyone who has to use this book)

Listen and Talk 2: What Should I do?

I made a prezi for the intro of this lesson, I used some ideas from a ppt dreamedadream's lesson on giving advice but modified it a bit so it fits with the sentence structure given in the textbook.
I might add a bit more to it, not sure if I'm finished it yet... but mostly.

To let you know how i teach this lesson with my prezi here are a few tips.
-i show and explain the difference between Korean handshakes and hi-pives with American/western handshakes and high-fives. "a strong handshake communicates interest in the person you are meeting while a weak one tells them you could care less who they are."
-for sneezing i tell them what people think when someone else sneezes in their hands,"that is gross, i am not touching them. I would get sick, they should have stayed home today."
-the safe way to give a fist bump. firm, straight line from elbow wrist and fist.

Hey guys,
I have laptops available for students to use. Here is a project that i made for my 2nd graders.

If you don't have computers you could still use this to start a project about gestures.

here is the idea for the project: Explain a Korean gesture, tell about a new foreign gesture, make a new gesture.

you could easily do that with paper too.

Board Game for Problems/Advice. Got the game on eslprintables.com and changed the problems quite a bit. I laminated them and printed 15 boards for 30 students so they can share.

Feel free to change the problems/rules! Great for filling up activity time..A couple rounds is easily 15-20 minutes and very good practice.

When I printed it the background color (pink/orange) didn't show up..Not sure if that's something that can be changed or not.

The huge Christmas game that was posted up last year was a really great hit with my students, so I decided to use it as a template for different gestures and based it on my edited version of flowerbuzz's gestures ppt. It worked pretty well with my 2nd graders, though I have some classes that are better than others. This can definitely be used as a review game!

Attached is my powerpoint for Unit 4. I incorporated both gestures and advice into this lesson, using a few activities from the book. I had to skip the last two activities of the powerpoint so I could do an original activity. I have the kids (6 to a table) create a cartoon at their table. The cartoon must have two people, six boxes, use English, and have one person with a problem and the other person giving advice. They get extra points for having gestures in the cartoon. This lesson has been really successful. I begin the lesson with these two videos to introduce the concept of gestures and to get them paying attention:

There didn't seem to be anything in this thread for l&t 2 [What should I do] so I threw together some materials! 

Core PPT:
This was adapted from a ppt I got over in the 3rd grade advice chapter.  I used it with my 3rd grade students and it went over well.  I have modified the dialogues in the ppt to match that on page 63

NOTE: I didn't use the stuff after the dialogues.  They might be useful if you have higher level students because they can come up with free answers and have free dialogue, but my students are only at a moderate level so those sliders would usually lead to silence.

adviceunit4 & problemsunit4

There are two word documents.  One is a list of advice, the other is a matching list of problems.

There are different ways of going about using them... you could be creative with your game OR you can be like me.. (I hate printing, laminating etc etc etc)

I show the lists of advice on my very large TV screen have have students choose 7 randomly.  Whatever they want.  Just needs to be 7.  (adjust based on how long you want to play the game).  You will need to print out the list of problems though.  After students have finished choosing and writing down their answers, you can start the game.  Read one question using the dialogue format.  "I eat too many choco pies".  Students with matching advice should raise their hand.  That student then responds "You should __________"  You reply, "Thanks.  I'll do that."  Now, the student who answered comes to the front and gets to read a question!  Rinse and repeat.

Order of my class
1. Daily introdution
2. Core PPT (from start, until the dialogue slides; skipped open ended questions)
3.  Do the material in the book
4. Play the advice activity (takes some time to have students write so plan accordingly)

Here's an activity to go with listen and talk 1.  It's a simple minesweepers game to go with the dialogue. Some of my classes are very low level so this should work. Select two students two students to reply at a time. One using the dialogue, "This gesture means _____ in _______" The other student replies with"Really? Wow? I can't believe it, etc." Click the corresponding box for points.

A couple of the gestures are not in the book. For example, peace sign, moving finger (hand upright) to say come here. You may want to explain those before the game depending on the level of your students.

The last level is blank in case anyone wants to do another round, but I think 2 rounds will be plenty.
