Another Intro PPT and Baskin Robbins game. Susie88 posted a Baskin Robbins game with words, but mine has pictures because it's the first period. The Intro PPT is in my own style, so take your pick from what others have already posted. This went over well with my generally low-level students.

Here is a popular past tense song. What did you do? Where did you go? Who did you see?
Past tense find the candy. I edited this template I don't know who the creator is but thank you.

Bingo game for period 1. Print a board out for each then call out the day and past tense activity.

Travelingpantsgirl made a really nice PPT for the first period.  I edited it a little to remove the spelling (I just didn't need it for this class), I added additional info for the past tense of is/read, and slides for great/fun/interesting. The smiley face pictures are supposed to go along with what the book uses. Hope it's helpful.

Here's a wordsearch -- students must translate 5 words and conjugate 4 verbs for the word list.  At the bottom is a question for students to say what they did yesterday, high level can give real answers, low level can pick a sentence from the book.

I printed this out two to one page.  The wordsearch is a little small that way, but it works fine.

I modified the Baskin Robins game to include both words and pictures. I had to cut the directions in order to make the game fit on one page, however, most students are familiar with this game or you can show directions on a ppt.

ps....I noticed during class that I accidentally have a baseball where a basketball should be- just find a picture on the internet and change it.

Thanks to the original creator of this. I edited it to fit this chapter. My kids really like it.

Writing game. You can play with mini whiteboards, one person from each team to the main whiteboard, or individually with the printed out grids on the first slide.

This is a running dictation game I changed from Mission Impossible to Christmas themed.

Students will gather the story sentence by sentence and then guess where Santa left his Christmas sweater. Each group will have a whiteboard to work out the sentences. Then, they can write the full sentence on their worksheet.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Lessons for this chapter

(1) Listening: Comprehension questions for the video; Listening game I made up...
1. Stick all the pictures on the board (big cards given in book)
2. Explain for each round students start by saying “What did you do yesterday?” Then one of the teacher(s) will steal a picture and put it behind her back. Then teacher(s) will say the key expressions. When you hear the one that is missing, stand up.
3. Students play game. For each round the teacher(s) brings the answer card back, asks the question “What did you do yesterday?” and class says the answer altogether.

(2) Speaking
Review expressions; more comprehension questions for the video; song; taught them a few more "it was ___" expressions as it's not always good. (it was awful / it was boring / it was ok). Used Talk! Talk! to test these - write numbers 1-6 in the bubbles.

(4) Phonics CR/CL/GR/GL and Review
SWAPPED PHONICS WITH PREVIOUS LESSON as TH links to Thursday (lesson 10) and GR links to Great (lesson 12)
Phonics "game": pictures are numbered on ppt. Teacher says one word and students hold up their fingers for the number of the word they heard. Students then say them to their partner. The partner listens and puts up the number on their fingers of the word they said.

GAME: Liar! Liar! (students love this; need laminated boards and paperclips - 5 per S). 1. Groups of 4/5. Each have a set of 6 cards (page 189) and a set of 5 paperclips. RPS to decide player order. On your turn choose one card in secret and place it in the middle of the board. The other players ask “What did you do?” Say one of the six key expressions. The other players move their clips to whether they think it was true (you said the card you put down) or lie (you said a different card). When all of them have moved their clips, reveal your card. Any players who bet correctly keep their clips. You win any clips that were bet incorrectly.

Here are the games I made for this section.

The Gru's factory and drawing relay were made by other people. I edited out the fart gun noise in the gru game because it was kind of distracting.

The Sentence hunt I made myself.

^For this game: Each team has a color. I color coded the sentences so the students are only allowed to touch sentence strips that are their color. I hid the sentence strips around the room and then put up matching pictures on the board (each team had their own set of pictures). Students have to search the room and find their sentences, then write the missing word, and then match it to a picture on the board. The first team to have all six sentences matched up wins. (I only used the six "what did you do?" sentences and left out the "it was great/interesting/fun ones for the sake of time and board space). I use class dojo so the students get class dojo points according to how fast they complete the activity.

Here's a simple PPT I put together for 2nd period.

There's a quick warmer you can use in the beginning of class. Change the dates on the calendar accordingly. Ask Ss "What day is it today?" "What did you do yesterday?" "What day do you have a janggu class?" etc.

There's also explanation of the Liar Liar Game someone mentioned on this thread. I printed and laminated one set of flashcards from the chapter for each group. Enjoy!
