I was going to test this game out in an after school class I am subbing for.I was going to start today but I still can't find a way to open the worksheet. It's in a file format that I don't have on any of the school computers. Microsoft Publisher... or a PUB file. (thought it was a joke at first)Could you please post the file in a different format? It would be really handy and awesome if you could.Otherwise I'm sure I can just have them do on a scrap paper. But formatted ones are so much prettier. And prettier = better.
I went through the whole thing and everything seems to be working fine. It's absolutely fantastic! It looks so good and is so much fun that it's almost ridiculous. Worth a Nobel Prize as far as I'm concerned. A million thanks!
My only criticism is this: Not enough chances for speaking and a difficulty gap between part A and B.Bottom line is I loved it. Though it was awesome. Just trying to throw ideas out there.
Hello, thanks for the game. I ran this over about 1 and a half periods or so...probably a little bit shorter than that. I did this with a class of 6 grade 1 middle school boys and they were fairly into it. They even began writing down the strengths and weaknesses without me prompting them to. One group was very deliberate with their choices and the other group fought over everything. The team that put most careful thought and deliberated in the group about choices along the way got totally steamrolled by the other group which was unfortunate.Overall the game was a success but as another has pointed out, it would be nice for a chance to students to speak, though in some sections the students were reading out the dialogues because they were interested.I'm not sure if my experience will help improve the game, but thought I'd share what happened. Thanks again.
Hey there. I would have replied sooner but I was ill for quite some time. For part B, it took a bit longer than part A. With my 8 students it ran around 40 minutes. But we weren't going fast. I made a mistake in the game I think. I only let the students pick one guy from their team to get points. But later I realized I should have given points for each character. This game should increase in fun with more teams. I would love to play this with my regular class and co-teacher but some of those students have played already. It would be cool to team up with some people who knew how to randomize stuff like that so I could play this again with the same students. As well, if you need any puzzle ideas I wouldn't mind helping throw out some ideas. Maybe my post is too late to matter to help you with time, but if you used it how long did it take you? Since you made it I'm curious how long it took you.
I think bombs could be effective, or lots of minus points and refuse to let a team drop below zero. I used this today over the course of two periods, giving 40 minutes for the first section and 50 for the second, and making the kids speak and explain everything along the way. They're an advanced class, so proceeding in this manner was very useful. The kids really got into it, especially the tongue twister. I tried to keep it slow in the beginning, and because of that ended up unable to finish the second half. They really want to finish it on Monday though, it's always a good sign when the kids get so into it the make requests. I was a little skeptical that it would get tedious after such a long time, but despite point differences they were still very much into it.
This is really great! I used it as a treat for vacation and it went down really well. Although, it took around 1hr 40 to complete as I asked questions throughout and reasons for their decisions. One small mistake I (my students) picked up on. When the snake arrived and you chose to light a fire. It said it was raining.... But some kids had the girl who can control the weather and therefore they should not get a minus. I agreed, but didn't know how to edit it correctly, so I just gave a +1 instead. Other than that, it was great! :)
