Inappropriate ad on Waygook
« on: December 30, 2014, 08:07:57 am »
I just saw an ad banner on this site for some sexual products with accompanying photos. Is there anyway the mods can make sure those ads do not appear? Or is there anything I can do?

There's no way that was my search history.

The adds showing for me right now are an opportunity to run a marathon in North Korea (sounds fun) and the 페브리즈 spray that's constantly playing before YouTube videos. I've also been told how I could become a Canadian and American citizen! I've never searched anything remotely close to those things so it doesn't necessarily mean it's from his history.

Could be a virus that has attached its self to your computer.  Run antivirus and spyware.  I use malwarebytes on my computer.  Seems to keep stuff off.

Funny note:
I got a virus on my yahoo account and spammed sent out Viagra spam mail to the whole POE one year.  Quickly switched to gmail after that.
It's -ev to deal with some people.

if it was an Adsense banner, then we have no control over that - they are based on your browser history.
use google to search the site

site:waygook.org XXXX

replace 'XXXX' with your search term

I didn't see the advert but was it a decent sale? It never hurts to stock up for the new year.

I don't even go on Facebook on work computers. They're strictly for work related stuff. What is an Adsense banner?

AFAIK Google tracks your search history across multiple computers if you're logged in to your Google account.

there's no shame in searching for kinky stuff man, everyone does it occasionally

I do enjoy sexually themed sites at home, but not here, and I don't log into any of my personal accounts here (gmail, facebook, etc), so now I am wondering if it's one of the other teachers.

Dude - just download an ad-blocker and be done with it.  You won't have to worry about it at all.

And if it's not you - obviously it was one of the other teachers.
Discount of up to $10 off of first order on iHerb.com ---> CHK096

I know, but I feel violated. I mean, if someone was looking at that stuff on my computer, what else were they doing in my seat? Yuck.

This thread is awesome. Sorry op for discovering your computer is someone's alone time spot :s If you are in an English room vs the teachers room I'd place the blame on the kids. I know my co's would sometimes let my munchkins in my room when I wasn't there during my first year, even though I asked them not to. Cue the whole awkward search history, downloaded videos on the hard drives that I am too afraid to open and me walking in on my students watching some very unique "anatomy" videos.

Fortunately since I got a new co I no longer have to worry about such nonsense. Anywho, good luck and God speed on your quest to purge your system of all the naughtiness.

You probably got it from a Korean website.  Ever seen some of the stuff they use for headlines in the KT and Herald?

Google adsense? Yes, you do have control. Login to Adsense and it is the 3rd tab across the top "Allow & block ads"
