Speaking rock paper scissors competition game.
 I will have to change the game design a little because speaking fast to win doesn't exactly promote the best pronunciation nor a good practice for conversational English, but my students love it nonetheless.
Game instructions. print number of game boards for half of your students. e.g. 30 students = 15 boards. Two students per board. Students start at opposite ends of the board. When I say go, i set a timer for a minute and they speak through the game spaces until they meet somewhere in the middle. At that time, they play rock paper scissors. The winner starts where the battle happened and the loser goes back to the starting point. Once a player reaches the other players 'start' they win. If rock paper scissors goes back and forth, the person closest to the other players start, wins. Pair up the winning matches until you come down a final match between students. I made them perform at the front and everyone was really into it.

made a couple of the same activities for lessons 1-5 during winter break since i didn't know when i would exactly want to use them. going to fit them into the semester whenever i see fit. hope you can use one for at least one of the first 5 lessons

Clap game using key expression for this lesson. Learned at EPIK orientation. quick instructions. Have students get in a circle. student 1 says the first word of the sentence and the next student says the next word of the sentence. When you get to the end of the sentence, the next student starts at the beginning again. As you move slides, symbols are added. Symbols correspond with actions e.g. circle is jump. When a word has a symbol on a word, you have to simultaneously say the word and do the action. Double and triple actions are eventually added. If a student fails or makes a mistakes, tell them to sit down. Choose the last few i.e. 5 of 26 for me, as the winners. Can take a long time if your not concise with your instructions, or if you have too many kids. works better for 15-20 students i'd say.

the clap game above is a speak b expression. this one is for speak a. i just made it cause i wanted to use the game for the first part of my lesson. if anyone has any good ideas/activies to practice speak a. let me know asap. the expressions are apologies and saying that it's okay.

Found three worksheets online dealing with making and accepting apologies. Not sure if I will use them but some good ideas.

week one of lesson two. contains speak A, the mission, speak B, and Fun with speaking. still updating. not sure how i wanna do 'fun with speaking' yet. there are cards at the back of the book for this game. we'll see.

Here is my lesson. I divided it into 2 weeks.

Week one I cover the text book Speaking part A and B. Week 2, I review and I do activities with the phrases. I focus mainly on making excuses.

I used a lot of materials from different posts on here and in another thread (switched books so I am using some materials from another thread that has a similar topic).

Hello,

Adapted some earlier posts and added in a couple of activities using a song. Baek A Yeon's song 'Shouldn't have' fits perfectly with this lesson! The PPT gives instructions for the activities.

-one thing, the English translation for the chorus is "You shouldn't have walked me home" but from a small reaction (laughing!) from my coteacher today, I think maybe the Korean version is more explicit? He didn't say anything to me though, and it's a well known Korean song so the students didn't seem phased!

Fun lesson for medium-high level.

Hi guys,
Here's a game I came up with...I think it might be a similar to apples to apples but since I've never played that I can't be sure. I divide the class into groups of four. Each player takes 3 excuse cards to start with. One person takes a card from the complaint pile and reads it out. The other three players must try to chose the best (or funniest) excuse to match the complaint. The person with the best excuse wins the complaint card. The person at the end with the most complaint cards wins. Rotate so that each player has a turn to read the comlaint cards and players should pick up excuse cards so that they always have at least 3 cards in their hands. You could add in other rules you think might make it work better.For my high level students I play this game exactly the same way but I don't give them any excuse cards. They have to make up their own excuses. It lasted for about 15 minutes. Hope it helps :)

Here is a PPT for the Speak and Real-Life Scene sections in this chapter. It includes extra examples of dialogue, additional expressions, comprehension questions, a slap game, and a make a story activity.

The slap game needs problem and excuse cards. My kids are a bit violent during these types of activities. So, I used scrap paper to make the cards. I used 'Dialogue B' for this game. I would read Speaker A's lines and the students would read Speaker B's lines. Some examples that I had were:

P: You kissed my boyfriend/girlfriend.
E: He/She fell into my lips.

P: You crashed your mom's car.
E: The card wouldn't stop.

P: You pooped on the floor. <-- this was the kids' favourite one
E: It was the dog who pooped on the floor.

The kids really loved this game and had fun making mini stories/plays with the cards.

Part A - go through the key vocab in the PPT (heavily borrowed from a poster in another textbook's thread), cover the listening on page. Then I had them get into pairs, and handed out the comic worksheet. For the first lesson they only did the first page (part 1 and 2) of the comic. At the end of the lesson they write their names and hand them to me

Part B - finished off the grammar parts on the PPT, did the worksheet, and they finished off part 2 of the comic ('you should have...'). If there was time leftover, they did the 'unique excuses' activity - write an excuse on their whiteboards, and answers different from other teams gets a point. +1 point for 'best excuse' in teacher's opinion ;D

Over two weeks, I cover the listen and speak pages in the textbook. The first week, I do listening exercises along with a short activity. The second week, I do the Speak section and the Real-Life Scene and I usually have time for a longer activity. Both weeks are included in one PPT. I have attached the PPT and the worksheets I used. Thank you to the previous posters for their material.

I focused on the apology aspect of this lesson. The students have to get into groups of 4. Each group is given one word from the song and their group must count how many time they hear that word. The groups that are the closest to the correct number win. If you don't have time for both songs in the first class you can do one in the second class. I have also attached a code breaking worksheet and a card game for using with this lesson.

Hi there!  So this is going to be my second lesson for the Early Bird, Night Owl chapter.  I can't claim credit for this work.  I took material from another middle school book in a different waygook thread.  Special thanks to 올리버-uh and SimonV for posting in that thread.  I hope they don't mind me taking their material.  I'm planning on teaching my students the similarity between the expressions: "Nevermind" and "That's okay."  When I get to slide 37 I will start the students on the worksheet that we will do together.  The slide is labelled "Let's Make a Sentence."  Lastly I'm planning on playing an "Apples to Apples" card game using the cards that Alex Hoy made.  The last slide explains my rules for the game to the students.  Anyway I hope that this will be helpful!

I'm re-uploading the complaint cards as I made a fix.  It's important to print these cards double sided.  The complaint cards will have the word complaint on their back.  The excuse cards will have nothing on their back.  This will make it easy for students to tell the difference. Enjoy! :)
